RAF loss

Postby expat » Sat Sep 02, 2006 11:04 am

Just on Sky News, no aircraft type, but speculation it was a Chinook

Fourteen British troops have died in an aircraft crash in Afghanistan.
The Taliban has claimed it shot down the aircraft - but British sources suggested the crash had been an accident.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Chinook with 0m AGl @ 3000m MSL = asking for problems.

Ever heard the US Army pilots complaining about the lack of performance of their AH-64s compared to the Northern Alliance Mi-24s?

Failure to follow procedure and develop a molehill into a mountain could be one reason; however I have not heard this report. Where do you get that information, bearing in mind the aircraft crashed in the desert with no credible witnesses.

No, actually.  However, what I have heard of, coincidentally, is you taking every chance you can to bash American aircraft in favor of Russian ones, even when it's pretty random and unrelated to the main topic. Strange, huh? ;)

Guys stick to the topic, and could we get off this russian vs western aircraft crap. Especially in a completely unrelated topic. Its childish, and dis-respectful.
Right now the MR4 is in serious jeapordy, if it turns out the problem was engine related, its not such a huge deal, but if its structural as feared by members of the team, then it would confirm certain things.
Condolences to the familys of those lost in this accident.

Well, the Moray Firth incident sprung immediately to mind - and they were incredibly lucky that they were able to bring it down before the wing burnt through. One nut is all it takes...
