Movie flying: objective burma! part 8 (last)

Well, the platoon has earned a break for the moment, having knocked out the Jap radar, so they're told to prepare to be flown out. But the glider LZ isn't big enough yet for a transport to land and take off, so what's to be done?
Of course...! Bring in a C-47 trailing a hook!

A line with a loop is strung between two flexible poles... the Gooney comes in on the deck at full throttle...

The hook snags the loop...

It comes off the poles...

As the line goes taught, the glider almost tips up onto its nose...about this time, somebody on board is probably thinking "Gee, didn't this thing just crash-land? Is it gonna stay in one piece?" :-X

Then they're off, with some souvenir Burmese foliage, no doubt!

The end... what a great tribute to America's WWII commandos, and the machines they worked with.

Glad you liked it... I think that glider pickup has great potential as an airshow act... first step is to find an insurance agent and get him really drunk...
