Crazy stuff goin' on tonight!

Wow, this is quite incredible.  I've been up for about the past 1-2 hours outside enjoying the most incredible noises outside!

At first the windows started rattling' with the low rumble of some helo's off in the distance.  Not thinking much of it I just kind of lisened from inside the first time... but actually heard TWO helo's pass over, on opposite sides of the house.  Kinda' odd... never get more than one helo at a time here, and was really low.

so I ran outside, and as luck would have it, I could hear a couple more from the same direction!  And wow, these guys were low... no lights, and the sound was incredible.  You could really hear the "jet" part of their engines quite clearly and the "whopping" noise of the blades sounded quite different from what I've heard before.  I could see both outline's against some alto-stratus clouds thanks to the partially full moon.

And then about 30-45 minutes later heard two large aircraft fly over.  I'd be willing to place my money on C-130.  Definately turboprop, big, and quite fast.  And we had two of them.  Quite errie as again, no lights but you could see faint outlines against the back-lit clouds.

Man, the sound was absolutly amazing as it is DEAD silent here (I live out in the country with 5 acres) and could hear the airplanes pass overhead.  The pitch of their engines get lower as they flew away, and then I could hear it gradually raise in pitch again and hear it actually turning around!   And boom!  Back they came, right over the house!  And again, man that sound was amazing, hearing those turboprops!

And then I could hear another jet way off in the distance to the opposite side.  Definately a turbofan of some sort.

It's been quite crazy because I could hear several jets way up in the sky from almost every side.  A few had lights and could see them moving quite quickly.   Man, this is way better than ANY airshow!  Not being able to actually SEE the aircraft really makes their sound that much more incredible.  And kinda creepy!

But yeah, that's about it for now.  I'm sure either McChord AFB (about 60 miles south of where I live) or Whidbey Island NAS (about 60 miles north) is up to some fun tonight!  Certainly wouldn't be the first time we've had either aircraft flying over the house for exorcises.  One day I counted 13 C-17's fly directly over the house... and right over the top EVERY ONE rolled into about a 45 degree bank... and man was it SWEET!!  I was so happy to be a WAYPOINT for them! haha

I'll let ya know if I find anything out about what was goin' on.
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.
