Unnecesary Equipment?

Postby rich747 » Thu Apr 13, 2006 8:31 am

Sorry for really long hyperlink, but you know this a.net lot! ;D  Why do Emirates use such a long long long haul plane as the A340-500 on a relatively short route like Gatwick, is it to do with loads and if so why not use a 346?

Cheers Rich

a similar question like this was posted a couple of months back.  the question then was why do 747s get used on short haul routes in asia (japan etc).  the reason is that its more cost effective to use one a340 than say 2 757s.  you can also get more cargo onboard etc.  the reason they dont use a340-600 is they dont have any (that im aware of).  i dont think i have explained this very well but im sure someone else can give more detail.

Loads
Prestige
Nothing smaller in the fleet available

Looking at the date... not a seasonal charter, so its one of the above ones
Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and [url=http://an24.uw.hu/]An-24RV[/ur

Well in enviromental terms Bigger is better becuase having one 747 carrying 500 people is better than having 5 737s carrying 100 people each you do the math on fuel econemy
