Spitfire Flypast
A re-enactment of the Spitfire's very first flight will take place over Southampton on Sunday 5th March, 70 years after the first test flight took place at Southampton Airport.
The re-enactment will take place 70 years to the minute after the first test flight took off from Southampton Airport, with one of the original test pilots, Alex Henshaw, in the passenger seat of the plane.
Once the Spitfire has re-enacted the test flight around the airfield at Southampton, it will be joined by up to four other Spitfires in formation and will perform a flypast over the city.
The five spitfires, flying at an altitude of 700 feet, will fly a circuit along Southampton Water before returning to the airport. Please note that the route marked on the map below is the proposed circuit for the Spitfire flypasts which are weather dependent.
