Third party gauge problem in FS2002

Postby mikedelta » Thu Dec 04, 2003 3:07 am

I have been trying to add the DHC2 Beaver downloaded from simviation into FS2002. So far everything works fine except for the gauges (from the gauges.zip file, which I have also downloaded, extracted and placed in FS2002's gauges folder according to instructions.

The problem is that, when I select the aircraft (DHC Beaver), FS2002 gives me a series of error messages saying that FS2002 was 'unable to load some 3rd party software' and referring to the FS2002 Readme file. The latter doesn't really seem to give any advice on what the problem is or what to do about it. Although I am able to continue loading the aircraft - and fly it, it has a 'stripped down' instrument panel - which makes life "interesting" since a number of switches and controls are missing!

Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution, please? ???

I have received that same error on a couple of different downloads. Haven't figured it out yet.

Mike. I suspect this is caused by a 3rd party module, a DLL in your FS2002\Modules folder. The error message will tell you the exact name of the offending DLL like this.
Image
To fix it - add this entry to FS2002.cfg using the exact name of the file. The file name is not case sensitive. FSSound.dll in my example is a common offender.

[OLDMODULES]
fssound.dll=1

Thanks for your quick reply, Hagar - yes, the warning messages look similar to the one you have posted except that each one specifically refers to one of the 'Beaver' gauges. So, unfortunately it is not quite as simple as identifying an offending dll.  :-[

If I could figure out how to attach a screen dump of the message (it is the first time I am posting an entry in this forum), I could show you (and everyone else) an example.

Mike. I'm sure this is caused by a module rather than the gauges. If its name doesn't appear on the error message you might not have installed the DLL. Check out my FS2002 FAQ page. http://www.simviation.com/lair/fs2k2errors.htm

Hagar,

I have sent you an e-mail (hope you don't mind) with attachment to show the screen dump of the first warning message seen. I have also checked your fs2k2errors.htm and read the notes about similar problems with DC-2 gauges. However, in my case there is not a single one of the error messages, which refers to FSSound.dll or any other DLL? ???

Guys. There are a lot of Beaver aircraft posted on this site. Tell me exactly where to download the one you're having problems with so I can check it out. I'm sure we can soon figure this out.

OK. I really expected it to be a file from SimV. I don't usually get involved with stuff from other sites. As I promised I'll check it out for you this time - providing it's not a big file. I'm off for a break now so this will have to be later.

MikeDelta,

The error message definitely indicates a problem with a gauge.   For some reason, the gauge(s) are not compatible with fs2002.

In my experience, the best way of avoiding these error messages is to actually go into the fs2002/Gauges directory and remove the gauge file(s) that is causing the problem.  Once that is done, there are two alternatives:

1. If one or more of the gauges you removed is an essential component to the panel, you could replace them by installing other gauges (perhaps from a different aircraft) that do work in fs2002.

2. You could install a different panel altogther.

Perhaps Pete (Hagar) or someone else will have a suggestion about gauge modifications that can be done, but I have never been able to figure out a better solution......

Erik :)

Sorry Airborn. I'm always happy to do what I can to help but I don't have time to go hunting around for stuff. Can you give me a page number or a link to the page this Beaver is posted on.

PS. Erik. Despite any rumours you might hear to the contrary my name is Doug, not Pete. ;)

Hey Doug,NP       The file can be found at AVSIM,if you use the search the file name is dch2ampV2.zip   look for it in FS2002 original aircraft. I downloaded the zip file and tryed to E-Mail it to you but for some reason out look express wouldn't let me do it. Sorry.......Air

I had that file tucked away and after watching the progress here thought I'd load it and see myself.

BUT when I got to the gauges zip folder I opened it to show all files, selected EDIT on the toolbar,SELECT ALL,Copy to,FS2002/gauges not overwriting any existing gauges.

Worked fine. Try your gauges file again and see how you go.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip but 'EDIT' on what toolbar? I am using a file utility (Total Commander) to unzip and copy files - have already (see my initial posting on this topic) unzipped and copied the gauges from gauges.zip (included in the bvrpak.zip file, which I originally downloaded - from simviation: http://www.simviation.com/files/1props/bvrpak.zip, where I get most of my downloads) into the main FS2002 gauges folder in accordance with the Panel Read Me.txt file from bvrpak.zip. (FYI, the bvrpak.zip file includes 4 different u/c configurations: wheels, amphibian, floats and skis - awesome!).

Apart from the gauges problem, everything else seems to work fine - a great sim aircraft (reminds me of my youth in Africa where I used to see the Beaver fly in the colours of Central African Airways on minor routes).

By the way, thanks to everybody for their attempts to help - I really appreciate it; hope to get this thing sorted before too much longer! :-)
