OK. This is getting a tad complicated. Let's start again.

The AI traffic cannot work without the default.dp file in the Aircraft folder. If it was missing when you looked, you had either deleted it by mistake or it somehow disappeared. I suspect that other default files might have gone the same way. In this case an Uninstall/Install of FS2002 would be the best & quickest way to fix it. IMHO

I'm sure the original traffic.bgl is in one of the CAB files on one of the CDs. I don't know exactly which one without searching for it myself. If other default files are missing, replacing it will not necessarily fix your problem.

Hagar - problem solved!!! I copied the traffic file off CD2 back into my ATC folder and deleted all other referneces to traffic (created by traffic tools).  I started up FS2002 and the default planes showed up OK.  I then opened up the flightplans.txt file and deleted everything then replaced them with a couple of flightplans (250kb worth) relating to major UK airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester) and when I opened up FS2002, they were all there and working OK - I now have AI customised!! Yippee - Got there in the end...!

Thanks a million Hagar and Ender_baron - it's good to see there are some real good people out there in cyberspace - happy flying!!!!!!

Whoa! I didn't know that one could delete all the existing flightplans! Very good.

Now to do a customised AI plan, I understand this is the way:?

1. Delete all existing FPs in Flightplans.txt after decompiling with ttools
2. Enter new flightplans using AITM.
3. Complie the .txt files using TTools.
4. See if it works.

Sure, that would work . . . . but only if you wanted to have JUST that flightplan in the entire world.  If you delete anything from the flightplans.txt, it will be deleted from the sim.  Consequently, if you delete ALL the flightplans from the flightplans.txt and then add one or two and recompile, only the one or two you added will exist.

Ender: Thanks. I just did, on my own ( ;D) a few flightplans and it worked perfectly. BTW, TTools 2.02 works perfectly. No hassles.

Thanks DY. Uninstall/Install of the sim should fix most problems. This takes quite a while & restores all the default files. It's much quicker & easier if you can indentify the problem without doing this. Most people have 3rd party addons & edited files they wish to keep if possible. Deleting the default.dp file is one of those common mistakes which is easy to fix if you know how. As for other edited files like traffic.bgl, it's a good idea to backup any file before overwriting or editing it so you can revert to the original if there are any problems. I believe TTools automatically takes a backup copy of this file before changing it.

PS. I've never thought about deleting all the default traffic, simply changing it to use my own aircraft or adding more of my own.
