AI Problems - Help Please!!!

Postby petehughes30 » Sat Aug 30, 2003 8:41 am

Hi - I am new to all this and am trying to improve my AI.  I have used Ttools 2.02 and obtained the airports.txt, aircraft.txt and flightplans.txt files.  I have added some aircraft and downloaded flightplans and all AC#xx in the flight plans correspond with all aircraft in the aircraft.txt file.  When I recompile, I get the following:

Airpot Count: 1936
Aircraft Count: 74
Flightplans:24027 Legs:53912

Complie of traffic.bgl completed

When I then start up FS2002 there are no planes anywehre (including the default ones) no matter which airport I am in or what time I set it to.  I have set ATC to 99% which is above most of the flightplans....can anyone help me understand why there are no AI planes around me and how I can solve this problem?

Thanks a lot!

:)

Pete. I haven't used TTools 2.02 in anger yet. Are you sure you didn't do something else, like deleting default.dp from the FS2002\Aircraft folder. That's the usual cause of this problem. If it's missing you can extract the file from Aircraft.CAB on CD-1 with WinZip.

Hagar - thanks for your response.  I extraceted the default.dp from CD1 as you mentioned but there is still nothing apart from the plane I am flying on screen when I start FS2002 up.  Any other suggestions?  Thx!  :)

Pete. Make sure you pasted that default.dp file into your FS2002\Aircraft folder - where you installed your new aircraft.

My only other suggestion is to restore your original traffic file to see if there was a problem with your new flight plans. Instructions for doing this are in TTools 2.10 Help.

Uhmm, this is a long shot, but how exactly did you add the new flightplans?  Did you  ADD them to all of the other flight plans, or did you delete the old flightplans and replace them with the ones you downloaded?

Ender_Baron

I added them to the existing flight plans - I haven't messed about with any of the original stuff.

What I did was as I downloaded aircraft from various sources on the net...then I used AirExTT to sort out the aircraft.txt file by sequencing the AC#xx numbers.  Then I downloaded various flight plans from different sources and changed the AC#xx from whatever the author made them (eg AC#4258) to match the ones I had in the aircraft.txt file (eg AC#40).  Would it make a difference if, for example, one of the downloaded flight plan information clashed with that of, say, a default flight plan, if I used the same AC#XX reference?

That is - example:  AC#1 [default flight plan exists unchanged], then I amend a downloaded flight plan [eg AC#4852.....] with AC#1.  If there is a conflict like this, does it make it so that AI stops completely?

What I think you are asking is, can you use a single aircraft number (AC#1) for many different flight plans?

OR

This might also be an issue.  If you change the aircraft that is flying the flight plan, the times of arrival and departure must also change.

But none of this would make all of the aircraft disappear.  I would recomend that you decompile the flightplans again and see if they read the same as when you put them in.  A good way to do this is go back to your existing copy of the flightplans.txt and change the name to something else (like fp.txt) and then decompile and compare.

Ender

I didn't create any flight plans myself.  I downloaded them from various websites (eg avsim etc) and added them to the default flight plans so if I decompile and recompile, it won't make any difference.

Is there something I am missing?  Is there a step by step help available?

Pete,

I was following this post over in the AFCAD/TTools forum.  Did you try Hagar's suggestion?

Look in your fs2002/Aircraft directory for the file "default.dp."  If you do not see it, then it may have been moved or deleted inadvertently.

The file can be extracted from the Aircraft.cab file on fs2002 disc 1.

I'm sure nothing's wrong with it Andrew. I simply pointed out that I haven't tried it yet. Therefore I can't give specific advice. ;)

Pete. Did your AI traffic work before you modified those flight plans? If so I think you should restore the original traffic file as I previously suggested.

If the default AI traffic doesn't work there's no point in adding more. If it worked before you modified anything I suggest an Uninstall/Install of FS2002 might be the best way to fix it.

I find it best to start off gradually with new things & not be too ambitious. My first experiments with the original TTools involved simply replacing a few default AI aircraft with 3rd party ones. When that worked I moved on to other things liike adding one flight plan & so on until I got used to it.

Hagar - the AI traffic worked fine before I added the new flight plans but when I tried to restore the original traffic.bgl file from the backup copy traffic tools created, the AI still didn't work.  Can I extract the original traffic.bgl file from the FS2002 CD?  If so, do you know which disk it's on and where I can find it?

Thanks!
