Squawkbox 2.3.5

Postby Skotguard » Thu Sep 18, 2003 4:21 am

Once we have the appropriate softwares to play online w: fs2002 (Squawkbox 2.3.5, Roger Wilco, FSUIPC and hostSb.dll) and once registered at VATSIM and IVAO...why the damn squawkbox refuses to open???

I have tried the latest versions, followed the install process correctly, but when it is time to get connected, i always have a window which says that squawbox.exe encountered a problem and refuses to open. (I have successfully conected to online games twice out of 30 attempts! And once it has worked, the next try is a failure!)

Has someone else experienced that??? Is squawkbox 2.3.5 really stable and reliable??? :( :( :( :( :(

SquawkBox has been around for years.  I've never had it not open.

There's a tutorial on the VATSIM site, in the "Getting Started" section.  It's going to seem confusing at first, but hang in there, you'll get it.

Read the tutorial, and then if (after a few attempts) you still haven't gotten it, post here and I'll see if I can help.  It's much easier to use the tute though.

Quick tip though.  Make sure you open the SB Host program before you open the main program, or you're not going to get anywhere. ;)
Great edit, Bob.

I've done all that, have checked the getting started section over & over, and squawkbox still refuses to open (the sb host program being open before the main one)..that's the reason why I don't understand why it doesn't open!!!

There isn't much to the program, you should just be seeing a semi-empty grey box.  Are you getting that?

Yes, i have the SB host half grey window, then i do ALT+ ESC, go to START menu, then select squawk box for FS 2002, enter the player name, the Ip adress (either mine or 127.0.0.1) and click on "join"...and at that very moment, the squawkbox window disapear and I get a n alert message window saying 'squawkbox.exe has encountered a problem and mmust close; Sorry for any inconvenience!!!

It is damn frustrating!! I've printed, checked over and over all this procedure, do it as wanted, but at the last step...it **** up!! LOOOOL

Seriously, am I the only one in that case??

Or is it alt+tab, Mike?  I've never had to alt+ anything, because SB Main Program is not full screen....

euh.....when you wanna switch from the FS window to reach  Windows menu to find & select Squawkbox, then I confirm that you hit ALT+ Esc...it makes you leave the FS window to come back to your desktop...not on your computer????
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :P

Yes, you can to that to return directly to your desktop, or you can do ALT+TAB and choose which window to be returned to. ;)

Hang in there Skotters....you'll get it, I promise.  It took me ages to figure it out, but once I did, it was well worth it.  Ask gilbates, he'll tell you.  He had an awful time trying to get it, but when he did, he was more than pleased.

You haven't experienced F$'s power until you fly with live ATC...

Hi Skotquard,

I just finished my very first flight with Vatsim.
I tell you, the ordeal isn't over yet ;D
Wait till you have to ask, talk, readback and fly....
Still shaking and sweating.

Great fun but some people listening to my stuttering will still be crawling on the floor LTAO;D ;D ;D

Man it was terrible. Like riding a really scary rollercoaster.....

Hope you succeed in connecting.

Cheers
