Firewalls and Routers and Ports,
If your computer or network has a firewall, you will need to open some ports for multiplayer to work. If the firewall is just on your computer, then simply opening the ports should work. If you're on a network and the firewall is located on another computer, a router, or other device, then you may need to set up port forwarding as well. If your network uses NAT, you definitely have to forward the opened ports to your computer.

Since it is beyond the scope of this guide to attempt to cover all the intricacies of configuring various client-, server- and hardware-based firewalls/routers, I will simply list the ports to be opened/forwarded.

Port Protocol Direction
47624 TCP In and Out
2300-2400 TCP In and Out
2300-2400 UDP In and Out

Generally if you just put your computer in the DMZ in the router, that will open the ports.

Whoa cowboy

I didnt write that piece , just found it and borrowed the relevant section

A lot of us here are clue less about settings for routers , i just got lucky and noticed that the info above was close to what i already had

To be honest i really think someone should write a decent piece about when , why and how routers work in laymans terms . there is definately a need for one ;D

Hi, just wanted to post a couple of links to websites that have been invaluable to me in the past.
www.techguy.org  ...............people that can answer anything
about anything network;software or hardware related.
www.bootdisk.com  ............A great resource for windows script
and fixes.
I think if you visit these two sites regularly (not just when your motivated by computer disaster!)  that in a very short
time you will have a super grasp on alot of the bugs that affect our lives!
www.simviation.com  ...... Who taught me how to fly anything my little heart desired.

I know of the perfect place to ask for just about any kind of computer related help... It's down for a few days (until the 27'th, I believe there was a hardware failure on the server), but you can ask how to setup routers, firewalls, and net connections at the http://www.hardforum.com. It's a great place, just don't post your first post in the Video card forum, unless you need help with a card. ::)
