Scenery help!

Postby Liam » Mon Aug 18, 2003 10:03 am

Hi.

I just downloaded some Edinburgh airport scenry. I unziped the "tree" file that comes with it and put it in the "SCENEDB" folder like it says. Then i put the Actual scenery folder straight into the "ADDON SCENERY" folder.
Then I start the game an add the "tree" and "edinburgh" scenery to the list that im supposed to add it to...

So I start at the airport and no no scenery!

Please help. ;D

Liam. Do you mean the scenery does not display or you cannot select it? Usually, an update to an existing airport will not be added to the Location menu. Make sure you select the correct folder when activating it from the Scenery Library. This is the folder directly containing Scenery & Texture subfolders. If this is hidden inside another folder it won't work.

Im selecting the folder that contains the Scenery and texture folders, is this what I should be doing?...I guess it's not because it isn't working. ???

Tell me where to download this scenery. I'll check it out for you. I need  the exact page number or post a link to it.

Errm OK. As I made the offer I'll check it out this time. This might take a while. I assumed you got it from SimV. Other sites should have their own support staff.

Liam. I checked it out. It works fine for me. First - may I suggest that you ignore all instructions to extract zipfiles direct to the sim. This is the method I always use. Right-click on the zipfile & select the WinZip "Extract to Folder C:\Blah\Blah" option to automatically extract the files to a new folder in your download folder. Then examine the extracted files before manually pasting them into the sim. Using the above method you should see something like this.

Image

Open the extracted folder to see this.

Image

Paste the folder named EDIN2002 (note upper case text) into FS2002\ADDON SCENERY. This is the one directly containing the Scenery & Texture subfolders.

Open the EDIN2002 folder & repeat the process with Trees.zip, pasting the Trees folder into the ADDON SCENERY folder.(Scenery can be activated from any location. There's no need to paste it into the SCENEDB folder.) I suggest it might be better to forget this step & download & install the latest tree library. Gerrish's Trees Library for FS2000/2 Release 3 here. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_ess1.htm
The tree library only needs installing/activating once.

Now run FS2002 & select Settings/Scenery Library. Click Add Area & add the new areas. Activate the tree library before EDIN2002. When you select the correct folder the title of the scenery should display in the "Scenery area title" box.

Image

When both areas are activated they should be listed on the Scenery Library menu.

Image

Click OK to return to the FS2002 main menu. Select "Create a Flight" & click the Current Location button. Now click the "Search Add-on scenery button". The Edinburgh scenery should be listed. (Not all 3rd party scenery will be listed here.) Select one of the options & check it out.

Hope this explains it.

Thanks alot for the detailed help, very much appreciated.

Although I did everything you said, I even loaded it the same way with the Cargo stand....the game loaded and there still was no scenery! :o

I installed a Stanstead scenery and it worked fine, although did lower the perfomance alot, weird how that one won't work...maybe my PC can't handle it? ???

I can only suggest it's your Scenery Complexity settings from Settings/Display. Some scenery won't display below a certain setting. Try cranking the slider to Normal.
