Landing gear won't lower above 100knts

Postby Simviation2003 » Sat Aug 16, 2003 8:00 am

Hello Fellow Aviators,

I find it a problem when I'm on final approach in a DeHavilland Dash 8-100 having to slow below 100 knts (IAS) before I can lower the landing gear. (This throw's the procedure checklist out the door).

My Dash 8-400 allows me to extend the landing gear at around 135-140 knts.

Is there a way of modifying the AIRCRAFT.CFG to increase the Gear Ext. Speed.

I can land the way it is, but the 40 odd passangers in the back start to panic when I'm 50ft off the ground and engaging full power (lol).

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

:) If you have a copy of the Microsoft Sdk for the aircraft container, go to the contact points section and there is an explanation on how to adjust the extension and retraction times on the landing gears.
Hope this helps a little.

After looking through the files I have for -100s I have found variations on speeds for flaps up/down. There is no indication for landing gear so I'm thinking that it may be tied into the flaps.
Check your aircraft file for flap speeds. What I have here for default is stall speed, flaps up 92/down 72.
I have a variation of up to 30 on those figures depending on the author but those numbers apply to 100/200s only.
White on White fly all night.

Red on White you're alright.

Red on Red you'll soon be dead.

This is for good reason, the aircraft was originally AI, and it forced the AI to slow down enough so that once they landed they could clear the runway quickly (they still don't). I went and looked it up, the stall numbers are 89 Flaps Up, and 66 Flaps Down, this is a short take off and landing plane, remember that. So you shouldn't have much trouble, leave it the way it is and enjoy the challenge. I find it easiest to descend when ATC tells you, get to the final descent altitude (usually around 2-3000 feet) early in the approach, level off there, idle and hold altitude, once the airspeed starts to dwindle down, apply power, flaps to second setting, and gear down. Flaps full at 100 knots or lower, usually aorund 2 miles out, then just fly the approach. Remember, in a turboprob, it takes very little power to get something done. Good luck, hope this helps. ;D ;)

The stall numbers I included were in reality, lol. You can test this theory, look at the Cessnas, as soon as they land, they are told to clear the runway, which means they are at or below 40 knots (tested and tested again), something that a real (or FS) pilot would never do, and this explains their hard and bouncy landings. ::) :P

Thanks Fella's,

I've tested an AI Dash 8 at YBBN with myself siiting on the threshhold forcing him to go around, with the crash detection off, the Dash 8 increased to full power but sunk like a jellyfish, hitting me and continue sinking for a further 3rd of the way up the runway before becoming airborne.

I'ts a shame

Whoaaah! Don't panic. This can be done easily by editing the aircraft.cfg file

Point.0 is the nose wheel and point.1 and point.2 are the main gear as you probably know.

The very last 2 entries at the end of the line for each contact point are for...

Airspeed limit for retraction     (KIAS) and Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS) respectively

Put in the numbers that you want.

I've posted here on the forums many times that the uploaded files that make the default Dash 8 flyable contain this cock up.

Thanks Rollerball

I just modified the Aircraft.cfg as you described.

Will now go and try it.
