F-16 "Best of Best" package??

Postby Professor Brensec » Tue Aug 05, 2003 9:43 pm

I have just installed FS2002 and am having a wonderful time with it (it's such a great improvement on FS2000, which I started with 2 years ago).

I need a little bit of advice about downloads. Nothing too involved, I don't think.

First, I'm installing Al Fischer's "F16 Package", which comes with a separate Panel and Sound folder. the instructions are to install thus:

#1. Install aircraft, (F16C 323FtrSqn)
#2. Install panel, (f16_v2)
#3. Install sound, (REAL F16)
#4. Install Rocket Effects, (RocketFX)

The problem is, I don't know where to put the panel and sound folder. There is no indication in the Read Me as to where they should go (I tried them inside the F-16 file itself, where the panel and sound folders usually are, but then the whole thing gets screwed up).

Where do they go?

There is also this instruction with regard to the rockets. Which key might this be. Once again there is no mention in the files.

Tap the smoke system key twice to let off one shot.

Second, I have tried a few of avhistory's"1%" planes that I have in CFS2. Some work perfectly, but some seem to have a very "simple, box like" graphic. I was told that these should work in FS2002. Is this correct?

Thanks

Okay, I don't know about the F-16 files, but if the sound files and panel files came separately then you are probably being instructed to overwrite (I never do).

Thank You for your attention.

i just overwrote the panel and sound files and it works OK.
(But the instructions that come with the package make it pretty clear that they have to be 'installed' individually in some way - maybe that's just his lingo for replacing the existing files in the F16 folder).

For your interest, the existing panel and sound files had this in them. maybe this sheds a bit of light as to what's going on:

[[fltsim]
alias=fsfsconv\f16_v2

[fltsim]
alias=fsfsconv\real.f16

first of all: i also downloaded this package, installed it, flew with it and it sucked! there is a much better F-16C avialable here...the one Jamal made!

if you really  want to use this one...ok, it's very easy to install:

copy the "F-16C 323FtrSqn" folder in your FS2002 aircraft folder

rename the folder "f16panel_v2" to "panel" and put this folder into the F"-16C 323FtrSqn" folder

also rename the "sound.realf16" folder to sound and put it also in the "F-16C 323FtrSqn" folder

as for the effect file (.fx), just put it into the "effects" folder in your main FS2002 folder

that's it! hope it helps a bit!  ;)

I knew I should have added a "step by step" installation instruction set. Just to alleviate the confusion.

Brensec:

I'm glad you're enjoying the package. If you have any questions at all, click my user name and send me a personal message. I'd be happy to give you any help or support on CORRECTLY installing any of the components.
Renaming of some of the files is not necessary.
Aliasing is!

Brensec. On the subject of CFS2 aircraft in FS2002. Some will work fine while others will not. Basically, this is due to the way they were designed (multi-LOD) & differences in the 2 graphics engines. It's a matter of trial & error.

Thanks for the F16PAK.  It looks great and flies like a "screamer" on my computer (all settings at max detail).

I copied the F16PAK\f16Panel_v2 folder  to the FS2002\fsfsconv folder.

Then I edited the panel.cfg file in F-16C323FtrSqn\panel to change it from
 alias=fsfsconv\f16_v2

to
 alias=fsfsconv\f16Panel_v2.

Thanks Pugs. That's the way I do it, adding downloaded panels to the fsfsconv folder. The same with all my addon sounds. Then just alias them to any plane you want.

Not at all, Mr. Bones. I appreciate your opinion. In fact, I think I need to try Jamal's F-16. (Better is the name of our game, isn't it?)

Thank You again people.

I have already done what has been suggested, ie putting the sound and panel folders into the F16 file as I normally would with any other plane (but there was no need to rename them, except to make the file look more 'uniform').

Fisharno,
Sorry, maybe I should have emailed you directly, but I have done that with a couple of other builders with regard to problems, but they took a few days to get back to me. (Obviously, I realise that all the builders that kindly share their work with us have other things to do, besides cater to our needs - I am grateful to them all).
So I thought the quickest way would be to get the people in the forum, who have probably come across this package before and are familiar with my problem, to give me thier advice.

For what my opinion is worth, I think the plane looks and flies great. I've been looking for a good F-16 for some time and only came across this one recently because I just got FS2002.

Once again, Thank you all.  ;D ;D ;)

P.S. Hagar,
I'm glad it's a known 'anomally', rather than a silly question or a moronic mistake on my part, as far as the 1% planes being a little 'funny' in FS2002 goes.
Thanks ;D ;)

There's an easier way than dealing with that fsfsconv stuff. Open the panel folder, delete the file which says "alias=fsfsconv\f16_v2" and then copy and paste all the files from the "f16Panel_v2" folder into the panel folder. Do the same with the sound folder. An alternative method is to simply rename the  "f16Panel_v2" folder "panel" and replace the panel folder in the aircraft with this new one. Same with the sound folder.
As for the plane itself, i just flew it and it seems just fine to me. If you don't like something, then say "i don't like it", Saying "it sucked" is an insult to the designer, and completely uncalled for. >:(

I know what you mean, brensec. I've done the same, many times. If you noticed the Readme file, I never got a reply from any of the designers with "Official" permission, so, at the advise of several folks here, I stated that I tried to contact them, and couldn't.

Oh well, things happen. I can understand Bepino's crew, because their in Italy. One of the other guys is here in the states. Who knows? ;)

As long as the thing stops on the runway, after landing. That was the biggest issue with the plane. After that was fixed, it was great.

And Gumby;
Mr. Bones has his opinion, and that's cool. Maybe Jamal's F-16 IS better. I haven't had the chance to check it out yet.
But, even though Bones' opinion is golden, I hear he's still not much of a sim pilot, anyway!  ;D

Just poking fun!  ;)

I know you are Fish  ;), and i'm a firm believer in stating one's opinion. It's all in the way it's stated that shows one's atitude. Remember, designers read these forums too, and their work is provided for free. I believe they deserve our of respect.
