FS2002/2004

Postby PAGE » Tue Jul 29, 2003 3:53 pm

Hi I have just joined this site as i love flight sims....At the moment i use EAW and CFS2.....I am seeking some advice from the members here on how I should go, either FS02 or FS04....I started using flight sims many years ago when the ground was just green and the sky was just a dark blue....I am now going to get FS02 or FS04...this is my question for you.....Which do you think would be the best way to go here FS02 which is a tried and tested program with plenty of add ons for it out there, or FS04 which is the latest sim with little or no add ons yet, and some possible bugs yet to find...and will FS02 work ok on XP....I look forward to reading your advice and I thank you in advance of reading the advice you give me  :)   PS I just hope i am not making you repeat any comments you may have already made on this subject   ;D  PAGE

i think you should look at your computer.  the real question is do you want more graphic senery or do you want performance.  And theres allways that happy medium.  If your computer is slower and has close to the minimum system requirements for 2004 then you should probably go with 2002.

the system requirements for 2004 are litterly the bare minimum to run it.  if your computer is slower than you wont be able to use very many addons and senery.

i know because i bought 2002 pro for my computer.  i pass all of the requirements but not by much.  it will run just fine but i cant have the senery very dense or my frame rate drops to 8 or below.  but when i take away all but a little bit of the senery i get frame rates of 35 or higher.

its up to you if you want senery but your computer barely meets the requirements for 2004.  i think you would be happy with 2002.  but if your system passes all of the requirements with a lot more to spare then go for it.  get 2004.

i hope this helps.
sorry for the book.  ;D

You'll find my specs on the left somewhere, and I run 2K2 Pro on XP with no problems at all.

I was going back and forth between buying CoF and sticking with 2K2, and from what I've read in the forums so far, I'm glad I didn't buy it yet.

Good luck!
Great edit, Bob.

I'd buy 2002, use it for a couple of months, download all the add-on goodies and then, at some point when COF glitches are ironed out, spring $50 or so and get the new one.

;D hi

Remember 2004's only just been released. It's not going to as well supported as 2002, which has a massive download database.  The added bonus You can pick up 2002 half the price now. :D

Happy landings

Phil

For me, both 02 &04 run good on win xp and I only have 256m ram -- higher settings with 02 than with o4 but they both run smooth for me with oem drivers (laptop) -- so get  'em both

With the way games are being created now adays you really need to invest in a gaming platform.

I think FS2004 is meant t be compatible, so all the FS2002 downloads should work with the new one. Im going to get it as soon as possible, but perhaps I should wander round to the FS2004 forums to see what the trouble is.

My problem is I do too much other stuff (both on and off my computer) to justify making it a "gaming box".

My system specs are slightly upgraded from the factory, and yes, I got mine from Dell about a year ago (Another one is en route as we speak.)  I've been nothing but absolutely thrilled with my Dell thus far.
Great edit, Bob.
