steep turn checkride tips?

Postby deuce » Sun Jul 27, 2003 10:46 pm

ive been flying around all over the world in various planes, but i felt it necessary to take the actual lessons to hone my skills to the point that they need to be..

ive had trouble with steep turns, do you have any tips for me on this? the flight instructor informs me i was "within 300 feet" and the checkride instructor tells me i have to do it another time.

Hi Cam, the FS checkrides have more bugs than the Natural History Museum. My advice is DON'T bother with them!

I agree, as do most people here.  The 2K2 checkrides are awful, and virtually possible to pass.

However, every time someone starts a thread on this topic, the forum gets slammed with screens of people who have either successfully passed them, or have become proficient enough on Photoshop to make you think they did.   ;)

My vote is also to abandon them.  Stick with the lessons, they're good.  But the checkrides are a lost cause.
Great edit, Bob.

Hi ye

This one can be done but it's not easy. :P
Get to 2,000 ft and level off, reduce power. It helps to put the pitch control forward ten degrees to help you keep the nose from going up, do this before you take off.
Don't turn as soon as she says so, wait till your ready there's no rush.
Bank into the turn nice and gently till your at 45 deg. as you bank slowly pull back to mantain altitude, you must also increase power, thats important as it's part of the manouver.
As you get to within 10 degs. of doing your 360 level out, again go easy, to quick and you'll find your nose aim skyward again.
If all goes well fly of to the airfield she tells you to and land. (It's the one the other side of the bridge not the near side)

Good luck
Phil ;)
