Enabling FS Visual Damage For Free, Your THoughts.

Postby VBD » Sun Jul 06, 2003 8:14 pm

I noticed that there are programs that allow you to enabled Visual Damage(when you hit a building from the side, a wing rips off but you keep flying, etc.), but they have limited options(only ten damage enabled aircraft, No way to enable all aircraft at once, etc) and you need to pay for the full uncrippled version.  If I created a full fledged program that had all uncrippled featers for free, would you be interested?  I'm wondering if it would be worth it to take the time.

OK, becaue I got a vote or two, I started on my program .  It should be up by tommorow.  It alread detects your aircraft directory and catalogs all aircraft.  Soon, it will allow to enabled/disable VD

K.  Now, it detects wether an aircraft has VD Enabled or not, and displays that and allows you to enable it on individual aircraft.  All I have left to do is: Disable Individual Aircrafts, Enable All, Disable All, and some type of install package

How long is it taking you to do this. It seems like you really know what your doing.

I'm not a great proggmer:
A. I'm using Visual Basic.  Its made for this type of thing
B.  This is an incredibly simple program.  You simply add one line of code to enable an Aircraft File
C.  THe only hard part isn't actually hard just tedious.  If you don't program it looks confusing but if you program, even some beginning programmers can probably understand it easily enough

I'd think somebody would have done this before.

Yes, except for a small error that wiped out my Aircraft Files.  Luckily, my program autobacks up files on catalog and restores them on command wew.

Yah.  Its starting to come out that way except with a few more features plus it enables/disables VD and is free. Crash Bak the registered version has several features.  THis comes with those for free.  Almost done debugging

But very few aircraft models support visual damage. IF they do, it's just a simply matter of adding a line to you aircraft.cfg file. However, if the aircraft doesn't support it, will adding the line of text make any difference? If it doesn't, what's the point in using your program if there's hardly any aircraft to enable?

Make sure you also give a list of planes it works with, and where to get them if some are not the default planes.

I do like the idea of visual damage, however I was also going to point out that you only have to change one line of code (well, add it technically) in the .cfg file to get visual damage.  What is this program going to do differently that would make it worthwhile?

Personally, I'd like to see something that adds more realistic crash damage.  Even 98 was a little bit farfetched. (But admittedly better than that of 2K2)
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.
