Change Active Runway!!!!

Postby Gizmo » Fri Feb 08, 2002 10:36 am

How dow you change the active runways in FS2002!!! They're unrealistic! For instance: At Schiphol Airport (EHAM) you take off at runway 6, but in real life it isn't even allowed to take off there, because there is another runway at the end of runway 6!!!! And the worse part is that there is no taxiway all the way to the beginning of r6, so you'll have to turn the whole plane 180 degrees ON THE RUNWAY ITSELF!!!! Strange, isn't it?

well, first of all, it is indeed "not nice"  :P that we have to take off on runway 6. Sometimes i have to land on runway 24, wich has no localizer!!!! So what to do when you are landing with low visibility?!!!!!!!

Yeah Schiphol is a real ('B' word if you have read my other coment on jokes forums, otherwise, the first letter of the next statement) Bitch! I tried to land there on rwy 24 during the bad weather last week. winds 15kts, gusts of 40kts without an ILS!!! :o
The whole Active rwy thing is dependant on which runway is the longest, for example, in real life Heathrow might land on 09 Left and take-off on 09 Right(depending on the wind) 2k2 detects that 09L is longer than 09R by about 200ft, and disregards all other rwy's. which is just silly. It might get sorted in a patch (if any) who knows ??? )

A lot of the active runways on my game have automatically switched to other runways, strange?

Yeah, I was a bit dissapointed with that when I picked 2002 up a couple of days ago. For instance, I have my default airport set to Atlanta Intl., and it ALWAYS uses 27R for departures and landings, although 27R only has a MALS for approach lighting, no touchdown zone lights, and only a Catagory 1 ILS approach. Not to mention, that runway is very, very rarely used for arrivals...normally 27L and 26R are.

More, than anything I could give damn less about selecting the active runway from the menu)... My gripe is, that the primary runways at my airport are 32 and 19, but I can physically set the wind straight down 32 at max. speed, and it still tells me the active is either 19R or 1L!!! What the hell is the deal with that??

You're right BE58D, I've got the same problem. The only thing of interest for FS2002 seems to be the longest RWY.
For example I use Zurich/Switzerland as my default airport. We've got 16/34 (longest), 14/32 and 28/10. FS2002 only uses 16 (maybe 34 if the tailwind component is big enough). I tried with a wind of 280 at 40 kts it's only changing to 34 instead of 28.

Is there any possibility to change the wind logics of FS2002???????? :(

Midway (PMDY; the Pacific Island West of Hawaii) is weird in that way.  It has both water and paved runways, but the longest is water.  If selecting 'active runway', you will not start on the water one, but  ATC will tell you to land non-seaplanes on the water runways.

I download the current weather at the place I want to land then update enroute(although it stops the flight while it loads) then fly into what it should be,not what FS says it is. If its wrong when I go to take off I hit the map icon and drag the plane to the correct end of the runway where it will reset itself. :)
I know the frustration but I've resolved to take that as part of the flight planning I have to do. :)
