.air file tutorials?

Postby N72 » Fri May 09, 2003 7:58 pm

I'm trying to resurrect the gMax Mitsubishi MU-2B that was abandoned as a freeware aircraft when the group broke up.  I've rebuilt Michael Verlin's FS98 panel to FS2002 specs and approximated the original panel layout very well.  I've eliminated the loss of altitude during turns when the autopilot is on, but I haven't been able to tweak the ground handling using FSEdit to eliminate the "tippy" behavior when turning during taxi.  Is anyone aware of any tutorials available on the use of either FSEdit or other .air file editors that might shed some light on how to attack this problem?  I'm a rookie at this and need some direction.  I've read the SDK and FSEdit help files.

There aren't any tutorials that i'm aware of for editing the FDE. Try asking in the design forums, otherwise it's by trial and error

What would be helpful to beginners is a general "This-Line-Controls-This-Function", explination.
I had to teach myself by trial and error. (mostly error :))

If you experiment, changing flight dynamics values is best done a little bit at a time. And of course, MAKE BACKUP COPIES!!

Hello N72,
there is a support board for .air files at:

Thanks, guys!  Lots of reading and playing to do now.  I've managed to increase top speed to published specs but now gauges (N1, etc.) are maxed out at part throttle so I still have a bit of learning to do.  Aircraft much more stable with full fuel load but returns to it's oversensitive, "tippy" behavior when landing nearly empty.  But that's my problem.  Your help has been outstanding.  Thanks!  I just need to find an .air file guru like Steve Small to lead me through the darkness.
