First ever flight "by the book" in progress!

This may seem dumb, but for the first time ever I am in a flight that I think I have down to a "T".

I am flying from Tokyo to Hong Kong and at about 40 minutes in I am at a heading of 225 degrees and I am at 35000 ft, on autopilot.

I haven't had radio contact in awhile and I was wondering if this was normal.  

When i check the map view it seems as though I am not heading exactly on a direct path to Hong Kong.  has anyone else flown this flight?  it's a part of the FS2000 adventures that come in the menu.

I have paused the flight for now to get some other things donw but I'm very anxious and wanted some confidence boosts as to whether or not I am on the right track.

Man,  if i can land this thing I'd feel soooooo damn good.

Has anyone else a "first-flight" experience to share??

As far as the radio contact is concerned, I've flown for long stretches without hearing anything. On other occasions, though, I do hear from controllers, but sometimes I just ignore them when I'm busy doing something else (bad! bad!) and they'll repeat their calls until they just dump me. I do sometimes leave the flight on AP and run errands ... just like the real thing, huh??  ;D

I hear radio once in awhile but it's for other planes.  I thought it was really awesome to hear radio contact from all planes during my climb to 35000 ft over the mainland.  I just kind've sit back and read a magazine, while i keep the view on SPOT and watch the smoke come from the engines....very peaceful.

I'm scared to land this thing though.  The ATC is very helpful, will they set me up on a good approach??

Alright I'm confused.

I waited patiently today for ATC to set me up on a new heading towards hong Kong, but it never came.  Also, when I unpaused the game this morning in the upper right hand corner it said "4x speed" in red letters.

As of now, minimal radio contact, and I've just passed by Manila..what gives???  In the flight menu it says Tokyo to Hong Kong, 3 hours 45 minutes.....I just don't get this.

First of all, are you flying IFR? If you are, then the ATC should have directed you by now, unless you're using the autopilot, in which case they don't bother telling you anything.

The 4x in red letters refers to time acceleration: Time is travelling at 4 times the normal speed so that things seem to go faster, and flights take less time. You can enable/disable varying degrees of time acceleration in one of the menus when you press Alt to bring up the taskbar at the top.

Although they may say the flight takes 3 hours and 45 minutes, it may not prove true for you.  It all depends on your airspeed, and how it is being effected by your power settings, wind, etc.  I could take you less or more time....  Best thing I think to do is to set up your flight and fast forward to the decent part.  On the long flights, I cannot just sit there for hours on end watching the world go by.  Takeoff and landing are the most exciting parts....

I've been on Auto Pilot since I hit 30000 feet, but i have had commands given to me since then....the command to turn right to a heading of 225 came when i was already on autopilot....weird....i guess i should just request clearance to land elsewhere???

What are the major airports south of manila??

You can also change time acceleration from the 2d panel by left or right clicking on the clock.  It will show 4.00 when the screen shows 4x and 1.00 at normal speed.

I think even though you're flying one of the included FS2002 flights, you still have to create the flight plan, and check IFR, and either VOR to VOR or Direct GPS.

As far as flight time goes, the flight planner usually gives a really high air speed.
For me, 673 Kts isn't do-able in my C-5. I just take the flight time shown in the planner and add an hour to it. That's usually closer to the actual time.
