Investigating Airplanes?

Postby Cherokee_6 » Tue Feb 18, 2003 3:29 pm

Does anyone know of a good website that  I can look up information on certain aircraft by their call number?

My father used to fly a Cherokee (thus my user name ;)) and the call sign was C-GXUM. I am trying to find out if its still operational.

Thanks!

Try:

www.landings.com

There's several searches that might be helpful.

Go straight to the source: http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/activepage ... .asp#quick

In the Marks window, enter C-GXUM and click search just below

Presto !!  As you'll see, it now lives in Prince George

Most of the aircraft whose wake I crossed over the years can be found in that database. Here's a few that I have pics of:

http://members.shaw.ca/cbooth/flthist.htm

The first registration, CF-JTH, is interesting because it was subsequently assigned to another helicopter, a Sikorsky S-58 (H-34 Choctaw) owned by Nahanni and based at Delta Air Park, BC in the 70's.  There is a pic of it at www.airliners.net.  If you check the database, you will see C-FJTH has been reassigned to yet another helicopter, a Bell 206b, based in Smithers, BC. It's been there for 5 years that I know of.

The second, CF-SXW, the airplane I learned to fly on now lives in Campbell River, BC.  We had a second C150, CF-WJN which now lives in Regina, Sask.

Too bad cars didn't last this long.....

Airliners.net is definately a great site for aircraft photos and information.

There is also a lot of information on a  site called http://avia.russian.ee especially on helicopters and other soviet hardware. one cannot search by callsigns, but i dont think you will be dissapointed anyway.

Cherokee_6;
Must be a good feeling to track something down like that.

Now you can make a FS model, share it with the rest of us, and she'll live forever!

Congrats!

Your absolutely right...its wonderful to know shes still flyin' :)

I have never done a build before but I would sure appreciate any info on how that gets done.
I have pictures of this plane...so do can I send them to someone who will create this for me?

I would love to fly it on my RTW trip!!!

;DLove those pics Cal, when did you leave the RCAF to fly?  Looks like you have had a lot of fun at it.  Geez, I thought I was older than dirt, (Just kiddin') I aint fartin' dust yet tho'.  What's your favourite heli to fly?  I think I read somewhere you lean toward the CH46? ;D ;D ;D
