ACU's

What are you laughing at?

I tried a set of MCCU's once, when the Marines were up at Wainwright for joint training. It felt like wearing garbage bags, in my opinion.

For most of my career we wore simple OD combat uniforms - for comfort and durability they were unrivalled but the top brass could never get around the Korea 'camo doesn't work' mentality. We use CADPAT now; similar material and make with excellent camo qualities. Here's a pic:

(Note: the bright Canadian Flag is only worn for garrison duty and exercises. During a deployment, the flag is replaced with a subdued light/dark green flag.)

The newer ones (pre-treated with insecticide) feel like heavy construction paper soaked in starch, which brings me back to the good old days of starching our cammies and polishing our boots everynight.

The green cammies are soft and comfy, like wearing a pair of PJ's with boots, but since deserts are the current battle uniform for USMC they are coming presoaked in bug spray and stiff as a board lol.  Can't wait for winter when we switch to the greens again back here in the rear.

Very cool!  Winter gear here in California consists of green cammies (sleeves down) and Gortex shell if it's raining.  On "colder" days we can wear our fleece underneath, but it never gets cold enough for "arctic issue" (the white arctic cammies) unless we head to MWTC Bridgeport for training (Mountain Warfare Training Center)  Then we get a temporary issue to wear while we are there living in snowbanks and snowshoeing up mountain sides (all in a days work up there in Canadia I imagine)

wow, that's cold. I've been in the field with temps around 20 degrees F, but wow, that's crazy.

I would take 130 degrees F over that .... ;D

Well, this is a total aside; but if you want cold...

Back when mountaineering was a hobby; I picked up a book by famed American moutaineer Art Davidson relating his adventure in the first winter ascent of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The title of the book was the lowest temperature the thermometer recorded on that nightmare expedition in 1967.

If it were cold out right now I would agree with you, and if it were hot out right now I would disagree with you haha.  It all depends on what the temp is outside, if it's hot we want cold, if it's cold we want hot.

Honestly though, you can dress for the cold, there aint nothing you can do for the hot.
