They are comical, but my two cats sure aren't dumb, or at least not THAT dumb lol  I have watched them set up more than one organized ambush on my weener dog, and succeed!  It's hilarious.  But I have also watched them run straight into the wall chasing a lazer pointer, so yeah they arent smart either  ;D

I don't know, dogs can be pretty decivious at times. I use to have this dog tied on a long chain and a cat that knew the exact length on that chain. It would torment that dog to the point of insanity.

I went over and unhooked the dog to let it run around one day while I was outside. Well, it just laid there and the cat came prancing up like normal and began it's little dance of torment. The dog played that cat like a virtuoso. It did like normal and went to it's normal max length and let the cat think it was going to get away with it like normal.

All of a sudden, the dog broke into a full gallop and tore out after that cat. That cat took of with the best "Oh Shit!" look I've ever seen on an animal. The dog ran that cat all afternoon. He finally came back around dusk and plopped down ready to eat dinner and be hooked back up for the night.

The cat on the other hand was so wore out, she slept for two days....lmao.

Yes, inteleigence in animals is an individual thing. We have two dogs and a cat, and I can tell you for a fact that this peticular cat is smarter than either dog. One dog doesn't understand the concept of doors, if a door is cracked open she will sit and whine for someone to open it the rest of the way rather than use her nose to push it open. I think she sees it as a solid wall that she cannot move, but humans can move. The other dog is simply dumb. I often wonder if she has been exposed to radiation or heavey metals becuase more than once I have found her standing in a corner with a confused look in her face until I pick her up and turn her around, then she trotts off and licks herself. The cat on the otherhand will pull a door open with her paw, ignore a corner, and get out of the way of a moving car. Sanity too is an individual thing with animals. Neither of the dogs has ever done anything to make me think that they are unbalanced, but the cat will go from purring in my lap to suddenly making a flying leap across the livingroom to attack the dog. The poor dog knows that she isn't supposed to mess with the cat, so she can only stand and take it until I pull the nut-job cat off of her and toss it outside. I guess my point is that it's all relative. The cat can open doors, but the dog doesn't try to kill anyone either. ;)

I could go all night about Piper, our west highland white terrier.
1. When we're trying to catch her, we get out a piece of cheese and hold it out, waiting to catch her and stop her from running around. She comes running right up to it, snatches it from my mom's hand WHILE RUNNING AT FULL SPEED, and keeps going, so we have to have all 5 of us get her, and we somehow did after she passed out.
2. My mom will threaten to give her away if we give her food at the table or any human food for the matter (which of course I give her, I feel so guilty by her puppy face), and so when my dad cooked some great steak this week, my mom said "just don't look at her", and so then when my mom did look at her, Piper's ears went straight back, her tail was wagging, and she was pushing herself back trying to sit up straight, then my mom closed her eyes and looked away trying to not feel guilty from the obvious power of Pipe.
3. Shine a laser pen on the floor, piper will look at it, but unless it hits her directly she just moves her head around and lays down, find me another pup that does that, please.
4. My mum and brother have a thing where one of them says "come here, you" (He's autistic & has a lot of mood swings), and so one time, Piper just RUNS over to my mom, and of course she is bawling out laughing and then she gives piper the attention she deserves, after all, she is the Princess of Cetona Court.

Need I go on about her intelligence?

My dachshund will glance at it then just stare at you like "what?"  Mean while my cats recognize the sound of me pushing the button of the lazer pen (i mean, come on!!)  I push the button and you hear them come running from the other side of the apartment.  Wierd how animals pick up on things.

Sorry, but I must defend your dog in respect to the described example. Cats are individualistic: even when older siblings go on a hunt, only one will often bring down the prey while the other watches.
A dog's heritage is of social pack animals with dominant leaders: they coordinate attacks on prey (wolves have been known to lure male dogs with one of their, seemingly, friendly bitches and then the whole pack attacks the dog). Especially since yours is the, usually, less dominant gender of the species, even if you have the door wide open she may expect to have "permission" to pass through...
unless you've trained her to be your master.
;)
