As soon as you pick up say "mee no speeaky eenglish" and hang up

That's a nice method for getting rid of people  :P. Last year I visited Miami and an officer stopped my uncle. He said something like "no englich no englich" "turis, I turis" . He let us go ;) ;D

lol some good solution their

but i have devised the best way

speak to them.... take down their name and teh referance number so that whoever they wanted can get back..then ask for the company name and 9 times out fo 10 you will get told that they cannnot disclose that information under the data protection act... so then respond with...is you cant give me your company name why should i give this message to so and so..... to which you get told its very urgent... so then if you say can i have the topid so they know what they are calling for again its under the data protection act.... the enxt question then is how did you get this number....which ofcourse comes under the data protection act....

by this time they are pissed off because its takeing so long and they cant hang up on you because the calls are monitored and recorded so you can piss them of but they cant yell at you..

you just need to keep it going until you get bored or until you yell at them.... they mite ring back but atleast you had some fun in the process!

and they seem to love the data protection act so just ask them what section of it this all comes under

works a charm

john ;D

Everytime when you sign up to something and your phone number is asked for the chances are that number will get sold to one of these companys. Thats how they get your name and numer.

And they will not with hold their company name from you because the sole reason for them phoning is to get you to know about their company.

If you're in the UK I already mentioned how they get it & what to do about it. Read this. http://www.192.com/general/electoralroll.cfm

yeah but when you sign up for stuff and have to give your name and number there is usually a little box at the bottom that you tick requesting that they don't pass your details on to get offers from other companies. If you ticked it and they still call, then they are breaking the law

Which means they most likely got it from a form where you didn't tick the box.

woodlouse take my word on it, they will not give the company name at any moment.

if you live in the UK woody, if you ever get a phonecall saying can i speak 2 so and so and they give u a personal name and a referance number. ask them the company thats calling and you wil be told they can not do that its under the data protection act.

weird i know, but im telling the truth 100%

I usually tell them it's a bad time, and if they persist, I ask for their home phone # so I can call them back later, say around dinnertime or when they're getting ready for work... when they refuse, I say "exactly", and hang up.

That guy did get a little too worked up, but God bless him-  he sure doesn't mince words... :D
