If...You Might Live In Michigan!

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Michigan

If you're proud that your region makes the national news 96 nights each year because Pelston is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Michigan.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Michigan.

If you instinctively walk like a penguin for five months out of the year, you might live in Michigan.

If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Michigan.

If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Michigan.

If you have worn shorts and a coat at the same time, you might live in Michigan.

If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Michigan.

If you have had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you might live in Michigan.

You know you're a true MICHIGANDER when...

1. "Vacation" means going up north on I-75.

2. You measure distance in hours.

3. You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.

4. You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

5. You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.

6. You see people wearing fall formal wear = camouflage at social events (including weddings).

7. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

8. You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend knows how to use them.

9. You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

10. Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.

11. You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.

12. You can identify a southern or eastern accent.

13. Your idea of creative landscaping is a deer 'bow target' next to your blue spruce.

14. You were unaware that there is a legal drinking age.

15. Down South to you means Ohio

16. A Muskrat is something you can eat.

17. Your neighbor throws a party to celebrate his new pole barn,

18. You go out to fishfry every Friday.

19. Your 4th of July picnic was moved indoors due to frost.

20. You have more miles on your snow blower than your car.

21. You find 0 degrees "a little chilly."

22. You drink pop and bake with soda.

23. Your doctor tells you to drink Vernors and you know it's not medicine.

24. You know what a Yooper is.

25. You think owning a Honda is UnAmerican.

26. You know that UP is a place not a direction

27. You know it's possible to live in a thumb.

28. You understand that when visiting Detroit, the best thing to wear is a Kevlar vest.

29. You have Canadian coins along with your American currency and local businesses accept both!

Sounds a lot like living in Ontario. :)

You missed a big one though...

"If you can drive south into Canada you might live in Michigan."

Michigan is the only one of the 48 contiguous States that has road access south into Canada. Detroit is north of Windsor, Ontario.

Our Dairy Queens are closed, and I can identify southern and eastern accents, but I'm from Indiana and live in Missouri. Still funny though. ;D
BTW. What is a yooper?

Yes, I have a cousin who lives in Wisconsin.
Roof=ruff, soda=pop, and a few other things I can't think of at the moment. O yeah, and his neighbor lives on a lake from december to march (no not in a boat).

I have a friend who has already hit 3 deer within the past couple months....ive hit 2 in the past year :-X

This town...90% rednecks and hillbillies...7% rich stuck up people who dont know what the meaning of "work" is, 3% foreign.....Easy to tell them apart...90% southern, 7% eastern, 3% whatever...can understand probably 2.5% of them ::)

From Michigan...nope...northern Indiana :P  close enough i guess ::)

I'd be careful lumping every rich person in the same category there, Triple7 ;)

It is because of my father and grandfather that I do not do the same-many rich people have earned every cent.  My grandfather never graduated high school, joined the merchant marines, and just before he retired he was offered the CEO position of Blue Cross & Blue Shield (he'd been VP for some 15 years).  He now has a very, very nice home just outside of Milwaukee.  My father worked construction in West Virginia for four years, lived in a trailer park.  You would never know it from the house or the neighborhood I live in now.

I'm sure, of course, you've had your run-ins with PLEEENTY of stuck up rich people though, in my area we have enough of those as well-but I would strongly urge you not to group them ALL in the category of "unworking," because it simply isn't true :)

I'm aware of course, you didn't mean any offense and were just exaggerating for effect, I'm just posting to let you know the other side.

Great Jordon ;D

I see your point there beef...here it is that 7% who are the stuckup rich people...ive worked for a lot of them and they really never leave the house...everything is brought to them.  they think they are the best.

There are a lot of "rich" people in this town that are just like the rest of us and dont flash the cash...i dont have any problems with them.  Its the ones that have the money and flash it in front of people like its the world and they own it.  Kind of their way of being "better" then the average person. (those are the "rich" people i speak of) Its more of an insult and deffinatly doesnt gain them any points with us "poor, pethetic" country folk :-/  Awhile back some lady in line said something to me about being "a pethetic farmboy" (i had just got off work, still in my bibs and a sweatshirt, dirty, and im sure i smelled like a bed of roses)  i just calmly replied "sorry, i was born and raised a county boy and do the dirty work so b*tchs like you can eat...but ide rather do that then sit at home all day eating bon bons" ::)

I really wish i had a cammera to capture their faces....Priceless ;D  I aint afraid to voice my opinion to people who try to make me feel small.  i may not have much money and it may not bother me much.  But when some lady dressed in fur with all kinds of gold jewlery and fancy handbags etc makes a comment about me being a pethetic farmboy...i dont care where im at or whos around...they find out just what i think about them  >:(

Hahahaha...it seems rich and stuck up are to words that go together.
America certainly has a class system...and would we be able to define "good home" or "nice neighbourhood" ?

Thanks,

A.

P.S Its interesting, those who are *rich* don't like to show it.

We always treat everyone exactly the same-having a beamer doesn't mean I can hold myself above any other human being.  I've learned stuff like this from my parents, who came from the "lower" classes and have earned every penny.

It would be not only a mistake, but a rather offensive one to refer to all rich people as "stuck up."  Our income is in the upper 2% of the nation, you wouldn't know it from how we act.

America certainly has a class system?  So does every other from of civilization on the planet.  Go figure.

My "good" home? (refering to my house here, not my def of a good home)-5,000 sq ft, $2.5-3m. (the real estate prices in this area are absolutely unbelievable-really, really good public schools)

To give you an idea of my neighborhood, the price I gave you for my house is on the low end of the average.

Happy? ;)
