Hahvad and MIT

What are you laughing at?

Hahvad and MIT

Postby Colonel_M00RE » Sat Sep 10, 2005 12:39 pm

One cheery day in a Cambridge supermart a guy goes into one of those express checkouts that only allow you to have 5 items or less. The cashier sees that the guy has CLEARLY more than five items, so she says to him:
"Oh you must be from Harvard of MIT." The guy is astonished, adn says "Yes, that's correct how did you know?"

She answers bluntly: " ' cause you're either from Harvard and can't count or from MIT and can't read."

Actually, thats grammically incorrect. Its supposed to be 5 items or fewer. A common mistake.

LOL at the joke though.

Well, all those registors over the US are incorrect. Ask any legitimate english professor.

10 items or fewer.

In my area, it's 12 items or less. It may be grammatically incorrect. But it gets the point across.

Heck, try going to New England if you want an adventure in the grammatically incorrect. Like for example the following words.

Correct----       New England
Car---------------Ca
Carton-----------Caten
Gums-------------Gooms- this one about killed me..... ;D
Cows-------------Coows
Fart---------------Faat
Aunt--------------Arent

It's like they forget the "R" in some and put it into words that it doesn't belong.

;D

Dude, I live in the US and let me tell, in American english, the correct phrase is: ten items or fewer
Same thing in England, the correct phrase is: 10 items or fewer
Yes, I know there are differences between british english and american english (like color vs. colour), but this is NOT one of them. Ask any English professor from any of the two countries.

IT doesnt matter, if they put FEWER instead of LESS it would not solve all the problems in the world, so stop arguing already, and btw i dont care what the correct wording is but it does say LESS on the checkout

Well, its not supposed to.

I know you don't care about it, but I do and the correct way is: 10 items or fewer. I can't believe there is an arguement on this. 10 items or fewer is the grammicatically correct way to say it. Accept it.

I'm not putting the joke down or anything. In fact, I think its a pretty amusing joke. I'm just pointing out thats it supposed to be fewer. Thats all.
