ABC's and English

I think that the person who developed the a, b, c, d, and f grading scale failed English.

I'm pretty sure the "F" represents the word failure,
while the letter grades represent a set array of percentages.

Actually, there is no provable explanation as to why e is missing.

I read that in the book Imponderables. I'll get a scan of it if i can.

BTW, many sources seem to confirm this, so hmm.

lol, did you hear abut how universities are working on changing over to the plus/minus system? Where if a person gets an A- it will bring the GPA down a little more...?

My university is starting this in January... :-( Luckily I'll be finished with it all in May...

We've got a scale from 15 to 0 points. Easy to understand and enough space for small grade corrections.

If i could track down one of my report cards i could tell you what they stand for by my school.  they are listed at the bottom. also use the +/- systems.   As for our GPA its on an 11 point scale which is really hard to get above a 9 for anybody even though there are people with A's and B's in everything.

As for graduation requirements they have gotten out of hand.  must have 40 credits to get even a state diploma.  not to hard but with all the courses they require to be within that 40 credits it makes it hard to fit any elective classes in.  we only have 5 classes a day but are on trimesters.  With vocational half a day i only have 3 classes.  but vc also amounts to 8 credits a year and possible certifications ;)  Also the state tends to standardize test us out the a$$.  even had one in HISTORY of all subjects :o :-/

actually, besides the normal ABCD-F, here's what i have

Township High School dist 214 Grading scale

A- excellent
B-above average
C-average
D-below average
E-effort (effort made, discontinued 1992)
F- failed (also U- Unacceptable)
P-Pass (Pass-fail classes)

and some other unimportant ones

so E was discontinued in 92.

Yeah, but in my state, there has never been an 'E' grade. At least according to the local historian at our main library.
