Possible summer project?

Postby Wing Nut » Tue Feb 28, 2012 4:56 pm

The WR-1 thing got me thinking and I now have the urge to build something, actually ANYTHING...

So I wonder if I could build a wing?

.....The only downside is I would actually HAVE to clean out the garage...

Go to your local hobby store and get some balsa and super glue and build a small wing for starter (I'm thinking ~2 feet long).  This will give you an idea of generally how it may go together and if you think about it, what tools you might want if it's much larger.

If you're up to it, for your wall decoration piece I would build wing with truss structured ailerons.  See if you can find pictures of aircraft wings from around WWI.  It will be more challenging but look much cooler than your standard wing 8-)

I was really thinking along these lines, complete with wire bracing and all.

Actual drawings are MUCH larger...
