The (for now) future is Android?

Postby pete » Sun Aug 21, 2011 1:43 pm

The future is Android .. or something similar. Apple has it's niche (A big niche but one I avoid because they exercise so much control which puts me off completely. Control is good for idiots, IMHO.)

Anyway back to the point. I'm reviewing the market to buy a machine that I can keep tabs on simviation, do emails, etc,

So now we wait for a good Flight Simulator that will work on Android.

I was pleasantly surprised to find I could get X-Plane for Android on my phone (admittedly quite a small screen)! :)

And yes, the future is android. Apple will eventually find that trying to do everything, and force users to buy all their lines of technology to allow devices to talk to each other, will be their downfall.

I love my HTC phone with Android OS.  With so many Android phones and tablets out there these days, one has to wonder how long until a full Android PC?

I use an Apple iPhone (2nd generation, 3G) and it does everything I ask it to.  But for a price.  Once my contract is up, GOODBYE.  I live down the street from Apple, in silicon valley, and when my phone broke, they couldn't do anything for me except charge me $150 dollars to open it up and tell me it's broke.  I had to buy a used iPhone and transfer my number or risk spending $400 and committing to another 2 year contract.   Add that to the fact they won't open resource their stuff, and yeah, I know exactly what Pete and Mark are saying here.

Go Android.

I guess what I meant is how long until I can go to Best Buy and have the choice of Windows, Mac, or Android PCs?

Buy a Tablet with Android. You can attach a monitor and physical keyboard if you want. Isn't that a PC?

If only there was an os which would put in all the good things about windows, apple, linux and android and put them all in one. :(
Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

I'm using a Google Samsung Nexus S, with the latest Android Gingerbread OS. No complaints, absolutely brilliant platform. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I think the future is with Android, but I still prefer the design and certain features that Blackberries offer. The BB Push service is very handy, and their tablet looks to be very useful too (and it runs many Droid apps)

Google are trying to buy Motorola (I don't know if it went through, I've been camping at V festival all weekend, so I'm catching up on life!) which would make for superb phones. Apple are just plain annoying... They basically charge you a few hundred to upgrade your phone, just to fix problems that should've been corrected in the first place. They're a bit of a Porsche; all the same, yet all slightly different  ;D

I have the Blackberry Torch at the moment. The tabbed browsing is incredibly useful, and it has great email service capability. The app market is horrific though, which is a major annoyance.

Google did indeed buy Motorola's mobile division.
Android and BB aren't that different, both are programmed in Java. Hence my involvement with my best mate in developing apps... I think we could make a few bob, which'd be nice 8-)

The majorrrr issue with BB apps is that there are so few, but 95% of them are payware. Like, even if it's 95 pence or so, it's still nearly a quid more than the equivalent apps are on Apple devices or Droid ones. Photo editing software with basic features? Between
