Good afternoon all...

Having been here awhile we have been able to make several observations which it would seem everyone else here just takes for granted.
Lake Ontario and the Bay of Quinte are separated by a small canal.
The Trent River along with several other rivers flow into the Bay of Quinte.
We live about a thousand yards from the river and on the bay. We can see both the lake and the river.
The wind here really does some odd things and the last three days we have noticed and logged the direction by time.
It is intersting how predictable the wind really is.
We also noticed the same sail boats go out about the same time of day also.
The river and bay become almost like glass the same time of day.
Now the wind at the homestead did not make as many abrupt changes in direction as it does here and the river never became glassy at the same time.
The wind here is much stronger also.
What we are trying to do now is to see how far sound travels here as compared to our old homestead. The city seems to funnel the sound such as sirens here and they seem farther away than what they really are. We are comparing ambulance sirens as every several hours we here one, perhaps because of this heat wave and the humidex is about forty-four or better and has been for the past nine days. The strong wind here and the proximity of the sirens to the water might also make a difference.
It is interesting what one observes when most local folks just take it for granted. ;D
Oh and the small birds here, few and far between. I am thinking the sea gulls and crows have driven them inland farther or perhaps it is the winds also because there are lots of trees and food around it would seem.
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
