Just Thinking

Postby Flying Trucker » Sun Jun 27, 2010 8:37 am

Good morning all... :)

Well in twenty minutes the old girl is going to drag me off in my Sunday best to the new church we will be attending.

It is huge, our little church would fit inside this church four times over.  I bet they even have indoor plumbing.    :)

We are going to walk there, it is only ten minutes away so that is a plus.

Now I go to church for weddings, funerals, Remembrance Day, Easter, Christmas and a few other reasons.  I do not usually attend every Sunday.

Now I have a problem and was "Just Thinking" about it.

Before we moved many of the young lads that finished their farm chores and the cows still have to be fed and milked on Sunday, well with their parents off to church they would drop in to see me.

We would sit around the wood stove in the hangar and chew the rag, about anything.  Many of these young men and women grew up with our children and have spent many a little vacation here.
I think they even got some ed u ma ka tion from me.

Gosh our oldest lad is going to be busy.... ;)    ;D

Goodly morning all... :)

Well church went great yesterday, we were welcomed and felt quite at home.

The minister, pastor, parson, rector whatever you want to call him was barely old enough to shave I thought.   ;D

Short and to the point sermon...just the way I like them.   ;)  Much better than what you see from those television phonies.

We chatted with some folks in the afternoon in the Commons Room and enjoyed our tea there.

This morning went off with quite a roar.

Four (4) F18s went past our windows climbing out.
Two (2) C130 Hercs followed.
C17 and several helicopters of various types all went out.
Two (2) civilian airliners were doing touch and goes.  Not sure what they were.

This was all early this morning...good grief...I wonder if they are going to keep this up every day?

We also heard a loud siren this morning going down the highway, it was an ambulance, being in the city is certainly different.   ;D

[color=#000000]Unfortunately Doug, the worst may be yet to come. Just wait until some young'un drives by with his 500 1000 watt amplifier rattling every window, piece of china, and tooth in the house. You probably won't be able to tell what type of music noise he is listening to, as all you will be able to hear is the bass. I hope you don't have to put up with such nonsense but it is a definite possibility.

I don't think it will be that bad Larry with both buildings being adult with security.

Forgot the airport flight path is out in front of us and they go day and night.

Perhaps I could get a balloon from one of the party stores and print in a red marker on it..."Quiet Zone".... ;)

Oh the price of freedom.... ;)     ;D

You will likely get used to it after a while, Doug. Good luck!
There is a set of train tracks 100 feet from my house, It only took me a year to get used to Freight trains squeeling to to halt for the switchyard a quarter mile down the tracks.  ;) Hardly notice it anymore..

Good afternoon all... :)

I do know we would not want to live anywhere near railroad tracks.  Having an airport this close is noisy enough.  There are also a couple speed boats, not sure what they are but built low to the water, several engines and sound like a sick Douglas DC3 when they idle them. There are two of them here, I thought they were built to operate on the ocean, not inland water ways.  Oh well they are noisy and ugly.    ;D  Probably not worth as much as my Land Rover.... ;D    ;)

Well we are both bored right now, every thing is geared for the evenings here in this condo although there are a couple of things for the ladies during the mornings, about twice a week.

A little while ago we looked at each other over a cup of tea and both said almost at the same time:

"What would we be doing if we were at home?"

Then we started laughing as we are at home.

Oh well it will take some time I guess.

You'll probably just get used to the noise... I've gotten to the point now (after more than 10 years overlooking a state highway next to elevated RR tracks, 2 miles from a major airport) where I can't sleep unless I hear traffic roaring just outside.
Only thing that still irks me is the ice cream trucks... makes me glad I don't own a gun.   >:(  ;D

Goodly evening all... :)

You are probably right Sean... ;)

Paul a "Condo" here in Ontario is like a apartment in an apartment building except most run around 3000 sq ft and are owned by the occupant.  There are common costs such as grounds keeping, security and maintenance.

In a normal apartment building the occupant does not own anything but their own belongings.

The Condo has several advantages like no grass cutting, the occupant does not have to do any maintenance, and when you go away you just pull the door shut behind you and everything is secured.  Not like a home at all.

A Seniors  Apartment Building here is for Senior Citizens, usually over sixty (60) years old but it is like an apartment in an apartment building and is geared to pension.  The senior still makes their own beds, makes their own meals, do their own laundry etc.  The building is usually a secured building and many of the seniors still own their own vehicles and go away for a month or two when ever they feel like it.

A Retirement Living Center is like a huge apartment building where the occupant has their own quarters, usually bathroom, bedroom and sitting room but eat in a common eating area, the food prepared for them, their laundry is done for them etc.  Their is a bar room, commons room, gym, pool, etc and they can also go away anytime they like.  Many still own their own vehicles and the building is a secured building.

A Nursing Home is just that, the person has their own room large enough for some private furniture and their own private bathroom.  However most folks require some medical attention or help and they eat in a common room and enjoy many activities throughout each day.  This does take most of their monthly government pension unfortunately.

Hope that helps a little Paul.

Oh and Condo living is not for the couch potatoe either, there is lots going on as we found out later today.  We have always been active and outside of the scenery change and a few other things Condo living is not that all bad.  ;)

..before I could put it into practice... [smiley=laugh.gif]

..as it usually does... ;).....

Which was nice, as it saved me from actually doing something!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]....!
