Haiti Virtual Relief Effort

Postby N2744X » Sat Jan 23, 2010 2:52 am

Hi All,

Im sure you have all seen and heard of the terrible news of the earthquake in Haiti. Like many others, I have donated a substantial amount of money to the relief effort.

Interestingly enough, I am very inclined to do a small relief effort of my own in FS. The aircraft that I spend all of my time flying is the Mitsubishi MU-2 from PAD. I worked on the design team to create the PAD Mits. Its basically the aircraft I "own" in FS. I have customized all aspects of the aircraft to my personal real world desires. My MU-2 is based out of KMGJ, and I will soon be embarking on a flight for my virtual relief effort. I was wondering if I might be able to find a few other virtual aircraft owners that have a "daily flyer" like I do that would like to join me. We will fly to Haiti and then fly short hop relief missions once there. Several weeks later, we will return home.

I'll leave this open to absolutely anyone who is interested in going with a few limitations. First, nothing larger than a corporate jet. The runways in Haiti are often short and unimproved, some of which are completely inaccessible even to bizjets. My MU-2 was designed for these types of surfaces, so if you understand the operating principles of the airplane, it is a great choice. Also, nothing smaller than a piston twin. Single engine turboprops are acceptable, and given the runway surfaces we will be using in Haiti, are even preferred. Cessna 172s can handle these strips too, but will also take a month to get to the other side of the planet.

Two question:

1. Where is KMGJ located?

2. Would a C-17 be acceptable?

I cannot join you, but I can offer you guys my Beta model?? You can cruise at Mach 1.3 economically! just don't be too heavy on the throttle on takeoff! I've landed it at 135 knots a few times.
