Sydney Dust Storm

Postby Mitch. » Wed Sep 23, 2009 3:47 am

Woke up this morning to a bright red sky, thought 'that can't be good'. Turns out to be the worst dust storm in 70 years, pollution levels were off the scale and over 75,000 tonnes of outback dust/dirt blanketed the city and outer regions. Things cleared up by about noon, thanks to strong winds. Very rare sight indeed. :o

Read the article here and check out some of the shots.

I remember the last time it happened; (dust storm).

It does occur every now and again.

First Wild Fires....now Dust Storms!

Paul.

It's not just California which suffers from Natural Events!.. ;)...!

You had something similar to it with the recent LA Wild Fires in San Bernardino and Mount Wilson, Alex....

...lots of dense Smoke!

Paul...;)...!

I woke up at 6:50AM on that day. A bright orange light was shining through the cracks in the blinds. Of course, my first thought was: "The Russians have bombed us, the Russians have bombed us!"

At YSSY, visibility was limited to five metres, apparently. It certainly was limited to 500m (at the most) around my school.

It was nice however, to see the unity that seemed to accompany it. For the whole day, everyone was talking about the weather, and everyone had the exact same experience.

I don't live that close to the fires so I would not know. Anything that is in the atmosphere and is composed of solid particles us usually bad. ;)
