Hmm, where is the CIWS system? Maybe that's it sticking off the side. Compare this to an Ticonderoga (Aegis) class cruiser, which is only 10 feet longer, but probably a lighter displacement.

I read "missile detection system", not CIWS or missile avoidance system.

What's the point of a missile detection system, if you have no way of stopping it? I guess that's what the sub is for.
