Scooters

Postby Sean_TK » Mon May 05, 2008 7:04 pm

Hey guys,

My friend a few houses down just bought a Yamaha Majesty (in silver) and has gotten me interested in this whole scooter thing.

Does anybody here have a scooter and commute on it regularly? I am looking at a few myself now, but I would need one that is highway worthy. (Like at least 65 mph)

Also, if it matters with my selection, I currently live in the United States.

My friend's scooter:

Ones that I am looking at:
-Same as friends OR
-http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/479/0/home.aspx

- Qlink Commuter 250 http://www.qlinkmotor.com/product.php?id=45

- (and finally, not likely but hey...might as well look) http://www.piaggiousa.com/pScooters/X9.cfm#nowhere

Just opinions, suggestions, anything scooter related!!
Purchasing one is still not a "near future" proposition, but I'm just curious!

Thanks,
-Sean  :)

I always thought of scooters like ugly chicks.

Fun to ride but you wouldn't want your friends to catch you on one. :-?

lol, I don't know what's a good one to buy, but I suppose you better get one quick before gas prices go up even more and the rest of us follow your lead...!

Honestly I was thinking of picking up one of those Chinese scooters, cheap! For taking trips around the neighborhood:

Not the best quality but OK for minimal usage, plus the entry level cost makes them appealing  ;)

The only complaint I have about engined scooters is that, well... they're fossil-fueled -- might as well get a standard motorcycle (especially for some of those prices)!
I've been riding the repaired bicycle that was left me (INFO); still need to mount my front directionals, alternator and a find a motor I can afford. If I had the equipment, I could manufacture my own. In fact, I'd very much like to make my own 'segmental' composite motor but that would be for, generally, larger vehicles. This thing about plugging in to recharge is ridiculous.
The fastest claimed speed for an electric bicycle I've seen, by the way, was over 70mph. The motor (electric = motor, combustion = engine) was rated at 36v but he slapped it with 72v: @ one mph per volt. My thought is that it's a good thing he didn't hit a pebble or he wouldn't be around to tell the story.

In the 1960's there were "Mods" and "Rockers".

"Mods" rode Scooters, and wore silly Parka coats.... :-[...!

"Rockers" rode proper motor bikes, and wore shiny leathers..... 8-)...!

I was (still am) a Rocker, and we killed Mods (still do)..;)...!

....Happy days!... ::)...!

My greatest embarrassment would be for my Mates to see me on a "Scooter".... :o...!

You can see why we killed them!...;)...!

Bleedin' Norah, Comm... :o...!

You should have joined us Rockers, in Brighton, in the 1960s...

You would have had so much fun beating up those silly Mods, in their silly Parkas, with the silly wooden Tassels!... 8-)...!

A whole new, refreshing, entertaining,  way of life...

...and Trophies to take home with you...(Testicles, fingers, etc, etc....)... :)...!

...trust me... ;)...!

Paul...now where did I put my bike chain..and spiked mace?...and that little bag of "whatsits"?.... ::)...!

Tee-Hee... ;)...!

..she obviously made an impression on you...

..(or you, on her!..)... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Even to this very day, I still wonder if our anger was aimed at those silly Scooterists, or just the daft Parker coats they insisted on wearing whilst astride their silly Scooters?... ::)...!

I wonder if the originator of this Thread is having second thoughts about buying one of those "Scooter" thingies, with the prospect of Rocker Fozzer turning up with his Mates, wielding bicycle chains, spiked maces, etc, etc...;)...!

A proper, Rocker, "Leather Jacket" may save his life?...

...maybe....perhaps... ::)...!

Let's just say that I'm also looking at the "proper" mode of two-wheel transport as well Fozz..... ;)

...Thinking about how fun it would be to wake up everyone in a two mile radius around the house with a proper motorcycle.... ;D

...I do that every morning with my big Honda Twin...(with the after-market exhaust system!)...;)..!

Alarm clocks are completely unnecessary on my Estate... :o...!

...and if they think they are going to have a quiet lie-in on a Sunday morning...Think again!... [smiley=evil.gif]...!

Paul....with ear-plugs... 8-)...!

.... ;D....!

I'll tell you what though...
A two-wheeled, motorised, method of transport will free you from all those annoying traffic jams...
...and save you loads of money in fuel and running costs.
....trust me...;)...!

...You just get wet and cold when it rains... ;)...!

Foz, it seems the forum's turned against us...

...although electric would be ok if powered properly.
Parkas? OK, if you're splashing through a cold slush;
trench coats are another matter -- get a tent and put in some peepholes: should get some notice as a tent zips through the crossway. Pull over -- invite some new friends in: coffee/tea, place a portable tv on the handlebars...
