I won't go and see it out of principal, knowing the original story almost by heart ........ plus there won't be Jeff Wayne's soundtrack.

Disappointing movie. I've read the script, I listened to the radio version, I've seen the movie from 1953.

Spielbergs slaughtering doesn't even get close to that, especially with his cheesy family drama.

Tom Cruise was pretty good 'though.

I imagine it would be much better if you don't know the story. I remember watching the original version for the first time. Nothing could match that experience for me.

I may eventually rent it, but only because they filmed a great deal of it here in Newark! ;
D Didn't get to hang out on Ferry Street when they were shooting, but I'm eager to do the old "Hey, I know that place!" thing...
I'm sure it's not even half as powerful a film as Byron Haskin's 1953 original, and even that was kinda goofy compared to the original story or Welles' brilliant radio play, but what the heck. It's a cheap rental... ;D

My review is short and sweet:

Excellent movie! I don't want to see it again! There were some really disturbing parts in the movie, but I suggest you see it, just not more than once ;)
