But, someone has to hold the legacy. And, if Gene didn't leave specific instructions then Rick Berman and Paramount would be the sole authority on future history. Gene didn't mention NX-01 but he didn't deny it either. Rick choose to flesh out that vague period between our time and the original series. I remind you that Gene left that period rather vague. The way Rick did it in no-way contradicts or changes what Gene had already given us. Therefor, there is room in the timeline for Enterprise NX-01 and Captain Archer and crew. I think it was a very good idea actually. However, due to my schedule and the fact that my wife detests Star Trek there are a lot of episodes I haven't seen so I don't know what went wrong. What I saw, I enjoyed. It brought back that spirit of discovery and daring do that existed in the original series but had been lost in the more advanced and eveloped period of Next Generation.
