I don't want to offend anyone around here, but after reading 4 pages in this thread, I think it's safe to conclude some of the Brits' food-ideas are plain:

..mmm..YES Omag..I am DEEPLY offended..we don't all eat Marmite you know...SOME of us eat proper food , like Yorkshire puddings and mushy peas and jellied eels. Real food eh?..commoner  ;D

BTW...I see you are from Belgium..a place synonymous with BEER brewing..now I wonder what happens to all that MARMITE that accumulates in the fermenting tanks...mmm...makes yer wonder..

Of what my Mum called savoury, the very definition.

Though made from lowly byproducts--leftover brewing ooze
It is so reminiscent of the finest of French stews

Such grand associations were surely what was meant
When so named by clever brewers from Burton on the Trent

Precisely what exquisite yeast do Marmite makers use
To lend such gourmet qualities to brewing residues?

Both of then really cheap, and fantastic spread on hot buttered toast.

My Mum often gave it to us when we were small, and it tasted lovely...
