Aviator and Phantom on the BBC Micro.

Aviator was great, so was Phantom, spent ages on those two. There were no spot views, just a cockpit and teletext style graphics!  I used to love my BBC Micro.

I remember flying some sample version of FS in '95 or '96, also first time I used a computer (friend's clunky old HP- can't remember the specs). No joystick, no color(!)... but at the time, I was working on my PPSEL, and it really seemed to help a little with my training, esp. visiualization of the traffic pattern, turning to headings, etc.

I did have some fighter game which was aviation related - just a small black plane that went along and one dropped bombs to score points. Eventually you had to eject at the end which gave you bonus points. Have no idea what it was called. I'd be glad if someone could tell it me. (You uploaded it off a tape). It started by taking off from a ship. Apart from bombing along the way one had to shoot down aircraft and I distinctly remember them being shot - (they just bent lke a paper dart and fell!) before ejecting as I said at the end. My Mum used to play it too.
My first flight sim was Flight Unlimited, I then moved to 98 and not long after to 2002. Then in June 2004 I got FS9.  8)

F-15 Strike Eagle III (Hours bombing the Iraqis, Panamanians and Koreans) in 1993 was my first on our IBM PS1, followed by AV-8B (apparently that's what the Americans call our Harrier ;)

First aviation-related, non-flight-simulation game: Top Gun (not sure if it was for the first nintendo or the Super NES).

First FLIGHT simulator: FS95 (Flight Simulator for Windows 95)

I can't even remember the first one I played...lemme think.

There was one for the Apple 2 called lander (all it was was just a runway...I kept going straight in thinking it was a hangar...I don't think we ever managed to land it without crashing.

Although there was one available, I never played a simulator for the Atari 800 (too hard)

There was this jet fighter one for the PC in the mid-late 80's.  You could fly a Tomcat and a Falcon!

Hmm...Afterburner II probably doesn't count, does it?

I saw Gunship 2000 on the PC, and got into a game called F-22 interceptor for the Sega Genesis...

I remember one or two for the SNES as well...

Then there was a version of Gunship for the PS2 as well as Air Combat 2...

I played around with some of the ones available for the PC in the late 90's...

I think it was the GA airplanes and the vairiety of stuff you can download that has moved me to FS....(along with the fact that I don't like anything that involves shooting anymore).

Geez, why'd ya have to ask me such a loaded question?!

My brain is all tired, I's gotta be lying donw nwo...

As for 'real' sims (Top Gun doesn't count, methinks): Flight Unlimited 1. That was real fun!
