Very Unusual Weather

It seems like the U.S has been pounded with storms these past few weeks and today the quite northwest corner had some rare stormy weather. It's not much but take note of

Although the state of Washington averages only 1.8 tornadoes a year, Washington has seen six tornadoes this year.

 Man, you should have seen it rain in Seattle this afternoon!!  It was really coming down for awhile there!

Actually Hyp, during this time of year the weather starts to clear up, and rarely rains all summer. Last year I don't remember getting any at all and even when it does its very light rain (Year round)  ;)

Man, you should have seen it rain in Seattle this afternoon!!  It was really coming down for awhile there!

Yeah, we got alot of rain too, and usually when it really comes down it only last for a few minutes but this downpoar lasted for hours.

scientist are predicting an ice age for alot of western europe and northeastern portion of the US if the north atlantic jet stream becomes effected.

St Louis, Missouri has gotten POUNDED the past 3 days. 2 days ago we had up to 2" diameter hail where I work. My car looks like a Nissan golfball. Hard enough that it cracked my windshield from end to end. Flooded major highways and interstates so they were not passable.

Last night tornado sirens were going off at home, and we had I would say a good 10 to 15 tornado warnings in the St Louis metro area. 2 downed trees, and wind gusts of up to 70 mph. 2 inches of rain fell in 20 minutes. hell even downtown St Louis was under a tornado warning.

I'm not convinced with all this Global Warming stuff. I heard 2 "experts" discussing it on the radio a only few hours ago. Each had opposite views so who are we supposed to believe? I've been around long enough to know that the climate is changing as it always has. It's been going in cycles since the beginning of this planet & will continue to do so long after I've gone.  

The US seems to get some extreme weather conditions. I remember being in Washington DC several years ago & seeing the biggest raindrops I've ever seen in my life. The rain was coming down vertically & when they hit the pavement the splashes were the size of soup plates. I then knew the origin of the expression "raining like stair rods". This was caused by a hurricane running up the East coast so I assume it's nothing unusual in that area. We even had one here in the UK back in 1987 athough the "experts" denied it & said it wasn't technically a hurricane. They weren't caught right in the middle of it like I was. I was lucky not to lose the roof of my house. Others were not so fortunate. The Mt. St. Helens eruption in 1980 upset the weather patterns in Europe for several years afterwards. Nature is far more powerful than anything we puny humans can do.

I remember a tornado back in the early 1950s it must have been - when I was knee-high to a gnat. It came straight down the River Adur valley heading south until it reached the old Toll Bridge at Shoreham, just north of the airport. Lifted a double-decker bus off the bridge & dumped it on a sandbank in the river. Fortunately it was low tide & nobody was hurt.

 Heres a funny little side note on global warming.

 Earlier this year (February?) former Vice President Al Gore, an avowed environment "activist", gave a speech in New York state on global warming.  It just so happen that the day he gave his speech was the COLDEST day the east coast had seen in thirty years!!

As another aside - this is the old Shoreham Toll Bridge I mentioned. The tornado lifted the bus right over the railings. The historic bridge has been sadly neglected for the last 20 years but is still used as a footbridge. Hard to believe now that this was part of the main A27 highway until 1970.


This is the new flyover with the Toll Bridge it replaced in the background & the airport beyond it. The sandbank the bus landed on is plainly visible.
