well the idea of less spam is always appealing but the days of having to delete each spam message individually is almost gone so now with one click all are gone, so the hassle isnt as bad. My biggest problem is the fact i already pay enough a month to have access to the internet why should i pay more. The whole doing a puzzle instead is an idea but again its frustrating and time consuming.

I never understood how so many are hit by spam, I've only had internet service for about two years now and never recieved allot of spam, maybe one or two mails a week, whereas my brother gets 100's a day.
I have a email account from my IP and one that is web based (dummy account) which I use if I visit a site that requires registration. and niether one gets spamed allot. I have found that if you get spam never respond to the link provided that supposidly "removes" your name from thier list, by doing so you are actually giving them permission to send more and give your address to others, you are "verifing" that the address is a working one!!
And one more thing I don't use a spam blocker, my IP (ATT) had one that I told them to turn off because it was blocking all my email, not to mention I don't need someone I'm paying deciding for me what I want or don't want to get!
Best advice, get a spam blocker, and never respond to a spam message just delete it!

It all depends on whom you give it to.  I never give my email out except to friends and to use it to sign up for things like forums, so I never get spam.

Either no, or your "real name" is B*** K*****. ;D  In which case that means you play both USAF and FS9. :D

I meant that in the sense that I don't actively give it out to the potential spam world, I have another account for that that never gets anything but spam.

Im a little upset, I switched my email over to a email service that costs money,

the original account has only started to get spam last fall after 6-7 years completely free of spam, its amazing :), but it didnt always work properly

the new service, within a month or two, I ve been getting spam, and the only places I gave my email was the messageboards I post at and my family.....

Whether you get spam or not you are still affected.

Spam takes bandwidth, some estimates suggest that up to 60 % of available backbone bandwidth is being consumed by Spam.

Spam filters, like any tactic that works after receipt, do nothing to prevent spam from clogging the internet...it still gets transmitted across the Web.

I like the idea of using CPU downtime to earn e-postage...couple of hours with your computer working on a cure for cancer and you have enough postage for a 12 emails. :)
