Not "true" races, since the pair were barnstorming partners, but fun nevertheless.

Pity Schumacher didn't win the lot. Then they might finally realise what a useless piece of junk the Typhoon is. ::)

PS. Can anyone tell me the name of the famous pre-WWII American madman & speedboat ace who raced an express train from Miami to New York & won? Also the name of his speedboat.

Can you not see how useful the aircraft could be?

Quite frankly no. I've seen the same old nonsense too many times before. I realise I can't change your opinion any more than you can change mine. We will have to agree to disagree on that one. ;)

its a good stop gap, till the Joint Strike Fighter becomes avaliable in 2012. The eurofighter should be able to last 9 years. its needed desperatly to replace the Jags and older tornados, but its just to old to be a long term option for the Airforce.

Same old arguments chaps. I've heard it all before so many times, long before you were born in fact. It's always the same old story - a stopgap until something better comes along. Problem is, it never does. Shock horror. :o

You all know my opinions by now or should do. I've had my say & you won't get another peep out of me on this subject. :-X :P

its a good stop gap...

1) Replacing the Jag and F3, it's no stop gap...

... The eurofighter should be able to last 9 years

2) and a lot more I hope...

LOL problem is Hagar, we had little option but to upgrade, especially with current world affairs. our aircraft are all very old, the Tornados arnt designed for air to air combat despite what the MOD wants to think, and the Harriers are generally to slow and dont carry enough weaponry to be of any real use these days(great for ground assault though) The Eurofighter is a perfect fit for the Air to Air section that we do not have, as for the JSF, its on its way, they have given themselves pleanty of time with this one. And since the US is working on it, its more likely to be sucessful.

Howdy Charlie.
the problem is the Eurofighter is god knows how many years late, i saw it in farnborough in i think 96 might have been 97 as one of its first public displays, should have been flying by then in service i believe it was early 70s this plane was being designed.

Never mind all that. What about my question? :P
Can anyone tell me the name of the famous pre-WWII American madman & speedboat ace who raced an express train from Miami to New York & won? Also the name of his speedboat.

He was also a pilot.

my bad the program began in the early 80's requests came in the 70's, and personally i dont think the JSF is set apart form the eurofighter because of its ability to hover, that is what sets the Harrier apart from all other aircraft.
