looking for hair.

Just today, i was picking up all the materials for my science project, which really is the worst part of my entire school year, and i needed hair to do the experiment... I started going from barber shop to barber shop, all over Miami. No one in any barber shop had hair. My mom goes like "maybe they dont want to give you hair because it has the person's DNA"(lololo)... We finally got hair in one barber shop. From then on, i started understanding better the frase "one man's garbage, is another man's treasure" . But anyways, i kept thinking, why in the friking world would my mom think the barbers want to keep the hair because it has a person's DNA?????

I would believe it would be more of a health issue for a reason not to give out hair.

And about hair... you have different kinds:
Over-painted:  looks crappy
High-pigment brown/black: 2x the thickness of european hair
European hair: the brownish stuff, varies in thickness and color

For those of you that have been confused by the word "Inflammable" read this:

Historically, flammable and inflammable mean the same thing. However, the presence of the prefix in- has misled many people into assuming that inflammable means

Frozzer, belive me, that hair i got, wouldnt fit you at all man, and you really dont look that bad man ... Ozzy, i was seriously thinking of doing that, but then i thought, and got to the conclusion that i wouldnt like to see my beautiful hair soaked with oils and creepy stuff, serving purposes for a science project... lololol!... Also, i would've gone bald if i had to cut enough hair for the project; people would be laughing at me in school ! Loomex, that in-flammable thing is really wierd! I had always wondered about it....  ???

Further to Loomex's comment - the word Inflammable is derived from the verb inflame - meaning to "set fire to" or "kindle". It's also used medically to describe a burning sensation - inflamed throat, inflammation of a joint, etc. You can make an inflammatory statement, now commonly called starting a flame war, also from the same root.
The opposite of inflammable is non-inflammable.

This meaning was understood perfectly for centuries & in everyday use until a few years ago. I never heard of any reported cases of confusion. However, the word Flammable did confuse me & many others when we first saw it used on hazard warning labels as we had no idea of its significance or what made it different. It was obviously dangerous or it wouldn't need the hazard warning sticker with a flippin' great flame on it in the first place. Could it be that this substance was less inflammable or more inflammable than Inflammable?
Another example of causing confusion where none previously existed. This is a comparatively recent trend which I always suspected is part of a cunning plot to confuse the humble, long-suffering fogey. We're confused quite enough already, thank you very much.

PS. B1a2rrios. May I ask what sort of scientific experiment requires hair. I'm intrigued.*

The hair idea came from an internet site, and so i tryed to filter oil with the hairy filter, and another filter made of some kind of clothing material . then i poured the oiled water into the filter, and it came out outstandantly clean . And that's the thing... Hope to get an A+

I'll be d*mned! And saying i am working at a plant where we construct large concrete basins to separate oil from water. The only thing we need is a hair-filter. By the way, how many barbers should i visit to collect enough hair to treat a flow of 100 l/s?  ;D

You're not the first one to come up with the idea of a "hair filter".

Many researchers have long believed that "feathers" can hold the most amount of oil because of the way how the feather was naturally made.

This method was used to clean out oil spills and other related problems.

One day, a barberer wanted to know how much oil a handful of hair can hold.

Since he works at a barber shop, he collected whatever hair he can gather. He then borrowed his wife's panty-hose so that he can use it to hold the large amount of hair. He filled up a small inflateble pool with water and added oil to it.

He dipped the "hair filter" into the pool and stirred a little.

Amazingly, the whole pool became clean enough to sparkle like H377.

Many researchers then decided to make a study on the human hair. They discovered that a handul of hair can hold a lot more oil than a handful of feathers.

The human hair is naturally made our of over-lapping segments that allows it to trap more oil between each segment.

Feathers don't have segments and only use the spaces that are between the strands. And there's not that many spaces.

Since the segments of the hair are only visible under a microscope [a human hair is long as well], they can trap the oil molecules better.
