This sounds very much like one of those Bavarian get-togethers. Lots of grown men with hairy legs running around in Lederhosen with feathers in their hats - drinking vast quantities of beer & doing all sorts of mysterious things. A tad worrying if you ask me.

I think you'll find the same is true for the US, at least among the Americans I've met. It's certainly true in the UK.
