I used to play chess alot when I was younger - it's a great game. I haven't played for along time, maybe I'll dust off the board tomorrow night ;D

My Dad also likes chess alot, I know he used to play in championships back when he was at Univercity.

I'm used to be quite keen on chess. Don't play to much these days.
My father was really good, used to play for Middlesex! I only beat him once!!!

A lot of my old schoolmates used to play chess every lunchtime. They all had those little pocket chess sets. They did their best to teach me but I never did get the hang of it. Absolutely hopeless, I just ain't cut out for it. I'm not much use at draughts (checkers) either. ::)

Ah well, I never lost any sleep over it. It's not possible to be good at everything. 8) ;D

Ya, I love the game, and was quite good when I was in my twenties, but like ya'all........havent played in years.
I had some slick moves that would lock ya up quick but if I tried them now, I'd mess it up for sure cuz I just dont remember when to use them. ::)

Chess is a game I have loved for many years.

Incidentally, why do ask?  Are you looking for someone to play with?

And Scorpion, go check out http://zone.msn.com  There's an online chess room that you can play in for free.  Great for practice, as there are always hundreds of different players, meaning hundreds of ways to be beaten.

I love chess so much that I have a Chessmaster 5000 installed on my computer and I play against my own system. It's a good thing that WinXP has a special ability in ragardsto games that are only compatible for Win98. Chessmaster 5000 is only for Win95 and 98. ;)

I also play [on some ocassions] with my cousin whose older than me. We always take a hell of a long time playing against each other in this game. Most often he wins, rarely we get a stalemate [tied] and very rarely I win.

My stratagy is always simple.

I would always build a strong defense. One piece is always guarding another while another extra piece is guarding the same piece.

It's like Fort Knox. You have many guards and snipers keeping an eye on the gold.  ;D

Then, as my opponent would try to chip-away my defense [by sending suicide pawns], I would try to buy some time to see how I can destroy my opponent's generals [Rooks, Biships, and the Queen].

At the same time, I would try to utilize my opponent's blindspots and use them against him. Like a pawn in front of a pawn, or a Bishop in front of Knight, and so on.

I also use several techniques that are widely known by the best chess players. Such as Castling, Horwitz Opening [if I can remember the name], and so on.

The Horwitz Opening is when [for your first move of the game] you move the pawn forward by one space [the one in front of the King]. That way, your Queen and Bishop is open an attack against any piece with their range.
