That's not too bad; there are much worse things you can do on the check ride.  :D

But yes, use the checklist for normal stuff, memorize the emergency checklists, and always read or recite them aloud.

Clueless pax and hot-shot pilot friends will think you're a spazz, but don't be embarrassed- imagine how much more embarrassing it would be to break an airplane!  If you live through it, you'll probably die of embarrassment...   :-/

As one of my instructors told me: "Don't forget the checklist; that sort of thing can kill you!"
