PPL validity?

At last i've decided to join a flight school and alteast get the PPL before i complete my MBA (Masters of Business Administration) due in may 2006. I would only be able to spare a day (sunday) for flying.

Anyway, what i wanted to know is the validity of the PPL. Is the licence vaild forever or do i have to renew it? Does it expire? What is the procedure for renewal and how often is it done.


P.S - It's gonna take a while before i get my PPL (may be a year and a half), but out of curiousity i wanted to know the validity.

Where are you is the first question?

If you are in Europe/UK, I think its something like 13hrs/year and a flight with an Instructor annually to keep a PPL valid...

In the US it is valid for the rest of your life, unless something happens and your license is taken away .  Once you get it you have to make three take-offs and landings every 90 days to be able to have passengers (You have to do the same thing at night to have passengers at night, but that time counts toward your daytime take-offs and landings).  You also have to take a flight review every 2 years after you get your PPL, which is pretty much 1 hour of ground instruction and 1 hour of flight instruction.  I don't think there is really anything else, but anyone please feel free to correct me.  :)

To answer Charlie's first question - i'm from India.

The information given by you guys is really appreciated and will account for the planning of my maths and physics exams which i need to take after my PPL and before the CPL (if i'm approved  :-/ ).

Now, i am assuming that the PPL validity depends on different countries. If that's the case then i'll have to check with the concerned authority here.
