London Thames, missing?

Postby EVVFCX » Sun May 01, 2011 8:05 pm

Hi all,

Saw video on youtube of airport in the alps range, tried the Maule m7 260c at altitude in France ( 6000') and struggled to get to take speed so thought I'd try London City Airport as the maule had been running fine in the missions.

I decided I'd flow low and west towards westminster bridge, a couple of bends before Tower bridge I noticed the river had gone in places and had land and what would have been large waterfalls had the river been there.

Can somebody else try leaving from same airport and follow the thames westward and let me know if thye get the same and does anybody know how to fix it so the water texture is not missing, I have not noticed this before and don't seem to get the problem elsewhere.

On at least one of the msdn pages there is info that says the problems with the maule and the textures in the Rivers Thames is cured in the service packs,  along with many other problems 'around the world'

I'm using FSX Gold which should have automatically installed the service packs.

cheers

Steve

May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs.

The Thames in the kid's FSX Acceleration on my PC is uneven and contaminated by long thin strips of what seems rock here and there in places that no pier may ever be placed (so misrepresentations of really existing piers they cannot be), but is there... mostly... and from above, high from above (say 2000 feet or more) looks still good. :-/

Cannot say what your problem is, sorry, but are you SURE that FSX gold installs the patches? As I remember, the Thames being even more a mess than in my configuration was in the not patched FSX. :-?

I have 'flown' into the FSX London City as it's actually something that requires real pilots to simulate before they are authorised to land there (from what I've been told) .. It's a very challenging landing. I flew in as a passenger from Swizerland last year and some passengers screamed on the turn into final.

However my FSX (Gold or somthing) is OK with it. What version do you have? I have a vague recollection of what you mention (rocks and waterfalls in london business district!!

The Service packs are installed with Acceleration which is bundled with FSX Gold.

The FSX Demo is limited to small area in the Carribbean.

:)

Well it may have been in the days when MS used to care about it's supporters and sent me (& you Doug) preview versions of it's releases for feedback.

I have definitey seen the waterfalls in London ... So would like to know what version of FSX you are using ..

Screenshot would be good.

Indeed Pete. I believe the River Thames bug was fixed in FSX SP1. This is included with Acceleration or can be downloaded separately.

I had the same problem and here's the fix your looking for:

http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... g&x=21&y=9

Scroll down to: [glow=yellow,2,300]FSX Modified Terrain Textures Config File [/glow]

Now this file was uploaded to SimV before SP1 and SP2, I thought SP1 was suppose to fix the problem, and I'm pretty sure that it should have been fixed with SP2 (but who knows why some folks don't have this fix? :-/) Anyway hope this helps and remember back-up the original first before you change it!

Hi all,

thanks for the replies:
@ Pete: I'm running the FSX Gold complete with the Acceleration pack installed : now then, I've thought of something that might be related, this is on win7, I'd forgotten I have it installed on my XP based PC, so will recheck that, it's the XP one that I may have been thinking of when I say I hadn't seen it before.

Thanks Angusmax, I'll check the config file link you've sent the link for, seeing as it's before sp1 sp2 I'll compare it with my config file.

What I will do is try and find those msdn pages again, they mentioned various bridges and buildings around the world that the service packs were supposed to fix, that will prove to me if it's a sp problem.

I'm wondering if I should have gone direct to the DVD and run the installer as admin? rather than let the auto installer run.

Something else which I read in the docs, if Acceleration doesn't detect that sp2 is installed, it automatically installs it, also on the msdn pages it says that accelleration will install sp2 regardless of whether sp1 is installed as it's not needed under that circumstance.

regards

Steve,

[i]SP1 Code and Content Fixes
There are a lot of fixes for code and content in SP1, but we still didn't have room to fix everything. I apologize in advance if your favorite FSX issue didn't get addressed. The areas we addressed are "Scenery and Aircraft,"

Cheers Hagar,

yep, thats the page.
Is there a way, perhaps by the versions numbers of FSX to tell if the SP's are installed?

I'll try and check my XP pc tonight, if not will have to wait till Fri night.
My times taken up by my radio control efforts at the moment.

I'm also getting prop behind clouds? with Seafire15_17.zip

many thanks to you all

Answers to the other questions I do not have, but the one quoted is a known problem due to textures. In planes that work both for 9 and X, a separate and working well texture for the prop is needed for FSX or it will happen what happens to you.

Cheers Hagar,

Hmmm. I finally got round to trying it. I have FSX Gold + Acceleration installed. Something not quite right here methinks. LOL

If you have Acceleration installed you should have SP1 & SP2.

Note. I haven't tried the fix from Angusmax's link.

Tried it myself, to give a more serious aspect to the kid's sim-slash-game and it does work quite well.

It does NOT flatten the water's level like it should be, and the Thames remains sometimes VERY rough and bumpy like water on earth NEVER is on a river like the Thames, but the thin strips of rock and whatever that sometimes made a veritable dam all across are now gone. :)

Hi Hagar,

The terrain.cfg download does work.
I'l have to check for the other fixes with sp2, lets consider this thread finished for now as the rock/water texture in my case is now fixed.

many thanks angus max and others.
