Getting Throttle power down

Postby timothy » Mon Feb 09, 2009 4:41 pm

Running FSX in XP.  A newby to FSX and trying out all the options. Everything seems to be working fine except.......................
One problem I have is reducing the throttle especial on landing the Airbus 320. Settings list Throttle reduction as F2 on the keyboard and engines at idle on F1. The throttle levers go to idle on F1 but do not stay there. Have tried grabbing the throttle levers in window with mouse but again they stay low for a few seconds and then increase by themselves.  No hope of getting reverse thrust in jets. This applies to Freeflight and Missions also.  Also Num 3 is supposed to decrease throttles but doesn't. Seems impossible to get the Airbus down and stopped on the tarmac. Anyone any ideas as to what I can do please ?  Thanks.

Do you use a joystick or gamepad or anything like that?

I had some problems with my gamepad: throttle was assigned to the right stick and used to throttle up when I just touched it by mistake.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Firstly, thanks to everyone for your replies. And I have landed the beast !!!  I have flown big jets before but this one is different. Firstly I placed the Throttle display on the base of the F10 window where I could watch what it was doing. I got the speed down by going to idle at 10,000ft and once down to 5000ft cut the speed on the Autothrust progressively when on level flight. And this appears to be the secret. Allowing on Approach plenty of level steps' and that is the place to get the speed down.  I used Autopilot right up until the last minute and it worked-albeit with a lot of tension and stress on my part !  I notice though that F2 Reverse Thrust doesn't work  on this aircraft for me nor num 3 as suggested in my Settings. I landed at a speed of 150 which seems incredibly slow but the plane didn't fall out of the sky. By chance I came across a site named Cyberairspace which is a Sim and this question of landing speed of the A320 is mentioned several times in Comments. Anyway, thanks again for your help. I am now going to have another flight.

Not till your down on the runway and the nose wheel touches the ground.  Spoilers are never to be used in the air.

timothy:

I would recommend flying your approaches WITHOUT autothrottle, or autopilot for that matter.

Aha !!  I didn't know you had to engage F1 first before Reverse on F2.
Thanks, I will try that tip next time. Meanwhile I demolished someones garden party at the end of the runway yesterday.

;D ;D ;D

It might work if you idle the engines by holding down F2 and then again press F2 to set reverse thrust - but I'm pretty sure that they need to be idled first! And the easiest way is F1...  ;)
