HELP! FSX: Texture Downloads only--need help.

Postby b108 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 2:59 pm

I know this site has a page for instructions on downloading textures only for existing defualt aircraft, but I don't know how to get it to work on FSX because the tutorial was made like for freekin FS '98 or something!!!

PLEASE, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE HELP!!! AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE!! No amount is too much!

I want to know asap so I don't have to sit around and wait for this topic to finally get a reply and it be one that doesn't even help.

SO PLEASE, GIVE ME PROPER INSTRUCTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DONE IT BEFORE!!! I don't want guesses! unless its a "99.999% sure I'm right " situation!

THANKS!!!

Place the texture in the folder for the aircraft in question.

Then open the aircraft.cfg.

In the README file included with the repaint, there should be a bit which goes something like:

[fltsim.xx]
title=Boeing 737-800 QANTAS new
sim=Boeing737-800
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=QFnew
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref
atc_id=
atc_airline=QANTAS
atc_flight_number=297
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="737-800"
ui_variation="Qantas Airlines"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="The 737-800 series first entered service for Qantas in January 2002. Today they have approximately 33 737-800 series in their fleet. The 737-800 flies higher, faster and farther than previous 737s. Qantas also has specified distinctive 2.5-meter high-blended winglets for its 737s to improve payload and range."

This being for a Qantas repaint for the default 737.

Enter the piece of text beneath the last piece of the same kind in the aircraft.cfg (they're in the beginning).

If the number in the top of the repaint before the one you just entered is, say [fltsim.6], you need to change the 'xx' to 7, or whatever comes next.

:)

I'm really sorry to say this, but that barely helped me at all. Let's say I want the Southwest textures for the default 737-800. what, E-X-A-C-T-L-Y do I do? I am going to have to stress this a lot:
I AM RATHER STUPID WHEN IT COMES TO THE WORLD OF DOWNLOADS FOR FSX!!! I NEED TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO IN PAIN-STAKING DETAIL!!!!

What was that big column of stuff for? What do I do with it? what were you talking about when you said at the end, something about xx to 7, if the previous was a six? And you need to be more specific than this:

"Enter the piece of text beneath the last piece of the same kind in the aircraft.cfg (they're in the beginning)."

WHAT are you even talking about?

I am not trying to be rude or anything, but please, go out of your way to make it like you are explaining it to a two-year-old!!! the more precise, and informative answers I get, the better!!!

THANKS!

-download texture you want. i usually download it to my desktop for easy access

-open main fsx aircraft folder, and open the folder of the aircraft you downloaded the texture for (i.e. 737-800)

-in the folder you downloaded, you should see a main texture folder, a readme, and maybe some pictures. Click and drag the downloaded texture folder into the aircraft folder of choice (i.e. 737-800)

-now, in the 737-800 folder, open the file called "aircraft.cfg" You will see what looks like in the post by Anxyous.

-open the readme from the file you downloaded.... you will see the same type of thing. Copy the info (as seen in previous post) and paste it after the last entry in the 737-800 aircraft.cfg. You will need to change the [flightsim XX] entry to the next number available. If the last number was [flightsim 6], the one you just pasted should be [flightsim 7]

-save the file, and you should be ready to fly
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

ok, so let me get this straight.

1) Download to whaever I want for convinience. Got it. This part I have done before and know how to do.

2) Get to the 737's folder on my computer. got it.

3) drag the texture that was downloaded into the textures folder for the 737. got it.

4) OOOHHH!!! I GET IT! O.k. based on the # of textures that are defualt, they all have their own numbers. This is supposed to be posted in there AFTER the very las one in the list, right? I think I get it.

Just let me know the answer to this and I think i'm ready to go!

BUT IF I AM MIS-UNDERSTANDING SOMETHING, POINT OUT MY MISTAKE, PLEASE!!!
