Aircraft loses power on the ground

Postby ThePilot_Ace » Sun Sep 07, 2008 5:32 am

Hi all, for some reason my aircraft seem to lose power on the ground  (i.e. radios, squawk box, GPS blank out) after a couple of minutes whenever my engines are not running. Reloading the aircraft seems to do the trick but I find this quite annoying. Is there anyway to solve this? I always leave my battery and avionics switches on.

Start the APU.

You loose the electric power because your batteries are dead.
Batteries do not have that much life-time when the generators and engines are off.

Okay, so in the real world pilots (in GA aircraft) have to do their before start up procedures very quickly?

Thanks

I think the opinion of real world pilots is that FS is unrealistically short on battery life. An example:http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1219419057/3

To unrealistically give the battery infinite life you can add this line to the [electrical] section of the aircraft.cfg

electric_always_available = 1
At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Just ensure the generators are switched on when running the engine
